Repointing needed or not

When doing internal rendering with sand and portland cement on solid wall to bring to level for skim finish....would you bother with repointing the old brickwork (that originally had lime mortar) before the first scratch coat or not needed?

As above but if it is thick then either wet down well and don’t trowel it on but chuck it on with the back of your trowel or I would use a small coal shovel.

chuck on what you can and leave to set. If it is still thick chuck more on, being thrown on will make it adhere,bit its when you trowel it you have problems as it will become top heavy and slump.

Maybe consider giving it a sbr and cement slurry first with a turks head brush to get into the nooks and crannies.
