Hi,

I have only ever used sand and cement when rendering. I have been asked to render a gable end (approx 100m). The client wants EWI on the gable and has asked if I can use sand and cement as a finish. They're trying to save money as another part of the job done in K-Rend but it was expensive for the materials. Although I have been on the trowel for the last 20 years I am a complete novice in the EWI area. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. If sand and cement cant be used on this substrate (as I suspect) what would be the best system to use.
Thanks in advance.

Walk away from this job.

The cost of the boards, fixings and adhesive is going to cost more than the top coat alone. When this job goes tits up because of their money saving idea's it is your door they will be knocking on wanting re-dress.

Avoid!

I do avoid these type of customers now! Price the job and if they start coming back with some money saving bs, I suddenly become very busy. Learned my lesson! No matter how you are going to do the job, they will find something to knock f the price in order to stay within budged. I always agree and say , yes, it can be done and let them find someone else to do it! So yes, why not - sand and cement on eps?Brilliant idea! How I didn't came up with this idea before?

Why do people start having work done they can't afford to get done ? Then decide half way through to completely f##k it in the a55 royal style.

My advice if you can't afford Ewi then don't get Ewi.

A child knows this

Thanks for this swift response, I spoke to the client last night and was advised that the cost saving idea was only a 'suggestion' and that the
proper specification should be followed regardless of the cost. It should be noted that I've have had a gang on this job for the last 3 months
with no problems in getting paid. This part of the job was added on as an afterthought, as this particular area looked a bit shabby. Which system
would you recommend? The job is on the Wirral. Would you recommend I hire a man with a machine to help with the application. Thanks again.
