Sandy texture on finishing coat

Hi All,

I'm a decorator and my customer has had some Velux windows fitted.

The finish coat on the room has a grainy texture and has obviously been brushed in some areas but not so much in others. The overall effect looks like there was sand in the mix or sand was thrown on and brushed in.

The window fitter has made good around the windows with a flat skim which stands out against the textured finish.

I've no pics but if anyone can think of how this grainy finish was achieved, please let me know. I just need to blend the two finishes. Thanks

Not blend the finishes ... cover the flat finish with the same grainy finish

Prob one coat originally
