SBR

I’m rendering a (blockwork) wall this weekend and it’s been suggested I put an SBR coat on before the scratch coat.

I’ve used SBR in the scratch mix before but never painted in on beforehand.

Do I just mix the SBR with water or does it need cement in the mix too? And, if I paint it on first do I still need to add it to the scratch mix?

3 parts water 1 sbr. Give it a coat which will dry straight in then over again before scratch. The second has to be tacky.

How long block been up? I would suggest rendagrip if old blocks

If it’s a new block work wall, no need for SBR. Unless it’s a high suction background and you want to kill the suction. Hosing down and Waterproofer and plastisicer in the mix will do. Having said that, it’s a great product for improving workability etc,.

If its 3.5 newton blocks you might be ok but if 7 Newton then there is no need.

I would prime with 3 water 1 sbr then when dry either 1:1 sbr and water but better still neat sbr and cement into a brushable slurry.

For for ease then consider Everbuild Rendagrip. I prefer rendagrip, apply once and let dry.

I personally don’t see the need , a splatter coat / scud with sbr is quite good if the money is in it for an extra day , if there were different bricks / blocks the sbr may equalise the suction and drying
