has anybody made up their own self levelling compound by using neat cement/unibond/water and perhaps a touch of sand as i want to level over vinyl tiles as the floor is in a very bad condition as it then needs to be tiled with ceramic tiles this is just a thought as this would be a lot cheaper than using a self leveller and would it adhere to the vinyl and without cacking, thanks

I have used cement mixed with PVA and some sand and applied with a roller and never had any problems some of them tiles are murder to get off.

my kitchen floor had vinyl tiles in good condition, i just tiled over them , been down about 15years no problem.

I took mine up last summer when redoing the kitchen, best method was hot air paint stripper gun.heat up a tile for a minute to soften the addy then scrape up whole with your floorscraper:RpS_thumbsup:

Be careful guys when taking vinyl tiles up, as some from years ago contain asbestos. [didnt know myself until somebody told me] and can not be dumped at your council tip.
