Shameful feather edge quality

Having been a plasterer for 30 years I have experienced some tools and their quality.
For some time now I've been exasperated by the build quality of feather edges. They bend so quick. I then noticed the strengthening rib down the centre is now not there, I've searched for years. I go through do many now as they seem so delicate. I'm sure to make you buy more. I even tried Refina as I had bought from them before and the featheredges were great. Well, they've changed their design and what turned up was a poor show. Out of desperation I need a new one quick so settled my demise with Screwfix. I was amazed! As soon as I picked it up and felt the weight I thought wow, this feels good. I took the end cap off and it had the rib!!
Held the Refina up against it and I couldn't help but take a photo so you can see the difference.
Magnusson I thought would be crap but look. Not only did it have a centre rib but the metal is thicker!
They have a greenstar pledge to make tools last longer so replacement is less with less impact on the environment. Good job. Any other brands you want to name and shame or sing there praises please go ahead so we can avoid the crap from others experience.

When I was doing acres of sand and cement float and set I wouldn't use that thing design of featheredge over about 1.2m. I used the much heavier, thicker type. The last couple I bought were by Taylor Tools.
 
Not heard of Taylor's, I'll check them out, as far as the sharpness..... The photo makes it look worse, and if rather a slight radius and last longer.....FFS
Still some absolute crap out there.
As far as OX goes, I won't touch with a barge pole.
Had a trowel off them. The handle started to open after 6 months, shop went interested and sent me to OX direct, they just ignored me.

Hey, I looked at Taylor's, they are just a builders merchant selling tools. As per usual the description is very limited and the picture only shows the front side. No brand.... No details of build quality and it's extremely cheap. Unfortunately, without knowing the details I'm not going to spend my money on a gamble. When did you last buy one? Do they have the rib down the inside? How thick is the metal?
I see it so many times in the last ten years. Vague descriptions which makes me think they don't actually... Really know what they are selling or what the quality is
Oh my god I'm starting to sound like my Dad.......AAAGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Sorry I had the spelling wrong.
I haven't bought one in probably twenty years, not like they wear out quickly. I've never had one of this type of feather edge bent, not ever.
 
For floating I go 1.5m Darby all over and then check and final with my 2.5m and 3m

Ended up taking my handles off after a few years, basically just a 1.5 straight edge now

It's a thick gauge of ally though with no chance of warping

It's one of them such simple tools that you end up loving

That's okay, no dramas, I guess that if you haven't bought one in twenty years then you've not experienced the crap quality. Unless the type you buy are just better. I'd be interested to see what type you buy. I've had this type featheredge my whole career. Never bent one till the quality issue. Only reason mine get replaced is due to using as a straight edge for a Stanley blade when doing board work. I usually buy one for plastering, and one for cutting. When the cutting one wears from the blade I use the plastering one for cutting and buy a new one for plastering. The old one gets cut down and used elsewhere on the flat side then. Or kept as a straight guide for my circular saw(flat unworn side)

I've never actually owned or used a Darby. Funny how we stick with what we know. Guy I learnt with didn't like them for some reason. I must open my mind and buy one.....lol
 
I bought a 2.5m H section from Refina. Wasn’t even straight! Bent like a banana, load of shite
