Shiny ceiling without gyobond/grit

I've got 2 ceilings to skim tomorrow so I went round today to check they were all stripped on the way home and one has a very shiny surface, he needs them finishing tomorrow, anything I can do to avoid gypbond?

Score it and a couple of strong coats of Pva or is it not worth the risk?

Try using a toothed float (scratch back render) to score it....plenty good quality pva....might be ok. TBH I like it coated the day before, sometimes twice....good luck.

give the shiny painted ceiling one tight coat of pva not to strong. open the windows and try to get some air into the room to dry the pva. if the pva has got drips or pimples then you have got it on to thick, sponge some off.
or if you can run to it unifinish.

Use unifinish. You can't go wrong. First coat unifinish, second coat board. Don't listen to the fake news about it on here. Most have probably never even used it. Get up in the morning, get down to B and Q, get some unifinish and kick that job right in the teeth.

The one draw back there though most don't stock it. Plus hstoke will confirm it's not fake news as would british gypsum also confirm.
Let's not forget you quoted "fake news" a few days ago telling a lady it's purpose was for problem walls and when challenged it became different backgrounds lol

Problematic walls would be different backgrounds. Just a question of semantics. Listen, no one likes to lose an argument, but sooner or later we all do. That anger you seem to have could actually be a gift you could use to your advantage.

Never let it be said I have anything against it, so long as false claims and lies are not told.
Has @hstoke been let go from the bg torture squad cos he complained against his failure of uni finish? I can't speak for it cos I ain't used it so I'm on the fence about it I would try but the price don't justify the gamble I would take

Problem walls are ones that are highly porous and pva doesn't cut the mustard on, which in turn means uni is of no use on these walls as it needs prepping anyway so why use it.

The big problem is is that it's promoted as a finish for all surfaces but when you look into it there are some it won't work on and some surfaces u actually have to pva first anyway which defeats the object of it but if works for ones who do use it great for ones who slag off but have never used it's hard to take you serious ;)
