My pal got done for about ten k in 2010, mostly Irish fly by nights, you have to way up paybacks and how far it can go,not worth getting a stretch over a no mark...
 
Got done for a grand from a builder, still phoning him and managed to get 100 quid of him last month with a promise of 100 a week to clear bill. He hasn't asnswered the phone since......

Got stitched yesterday for £480.
5pm yesterday evening client took one look at it and said "dont like it, i aint paying ya".
Still deciding my next move.
Had a bad feeling about it when i priced it in November. Over cooked it as I didn't want it.
 
A relation of mine in the 80's internally scudded two houses with synthaprufe and sand/cement, all walls ceilings ,kitchens/bathrooms,windows when he was told, this is all you're getting pat,now finish up and **** off" then they left....If they had ever caught up with him.....but those days, no trails like now, emails,mobiles....

Rip the plaster off the walls!!! I've had to do it before on a big site they owed us £5000 everything was bang on they were just being *****!!

When at someone's home I tend to use body language. The best form is to copy the stance the customer is making and try not to talk too much. Listening to people is a strong tool.
people want to buy from you so if they like that you were on time, clean and tidy looking etc then you are ahead of the next person.

It was a large artex patch repair. (yes i did tell him I wanted to do the whole ceiling)
Should have put my hammer through it but i thought, if they really want it that bad they can have it.
He started bringing my professionalism into it and telling me how to do it.
Should have listened to my gut, but, could have been worse.
