Yes it sounds like the water wassnt cosha but all im sayin is the sand and cement was not left to cure for ling enough and has pulled away from skim.
Also i wisb i could work for builders thst wantex sand and cement all the time 9 times out of 10 no matter how big the job is its hardwall float and set the same day. I always push for sand and cement as i prefer it but im always told nooooo. Theres nothing wrong with floating large jobs with hardwall:RpS_confused:

im standing by it being skimmed too early, but the water might have had a factor to play in it

Talking of supplying, ive noticed more and more private jobs where people dont have sugar, this really is inconsiderate.

done one the other day boiled the kettle when i picked it up the bottom fell off the kettle and all the boiling water just fell out all over the worksurface and on me trousers, luckily i was wearing thick trousers and long jons so it diddnt burn me

Did you pva the walls before skimming. When I did lots of site work we were always told to pva the sand cement before we skimmed it. Even so 5yrs is pushing it a bit.seems like the customer wasnt going to pay whatever

What by someone that didn't have a clue?

No British gypsum.we were doing a leisure centre and my boss had trouble with multi shelling off ,so told us to to devil up the render then pva when skimming it. I've always done it ever since ,never had problems. I've seen multi shell off plasterboard before now. It is shite

We sand and cement every block job we do and only ever had a problem with skim coming off in the summer of 09. My head was wrecked over it as it was also a local job. They took off the loose skim and we thistle bonded and we re-skimmed the rooms but they supplied the gear. The ceilings were fine. I was chattin a few fellow spreads that said they had bother with skim that summer on sand and cement also. We put it down to bad skim, fella in the hardware store said people were coming in every day to get it sampled but that it always came back clear. If you do work for this contractor i would try to work something out with him if he does want it done again. Do not let it get to you, lookin back i let it get to me, it wasn't worth all the worry.

Hello mate bit of an unfortunate 1 what sand did u use and was it hot weather the only time i have known it to she'll on s&c is when it's not floated up properly or done in warm weather and has pulled in to quick but I'm sure u would no that as u seem experienced enough
