Skimming neat and tidy without spat/speedskim

The speedskim is pure shite in my opinion, I’ve used the one with the white blade, blue blade and the new metal one all of them utter rubbish I found. Awful uncomfortable to hold and just drag rather than flatten anything.
What size did you use to use out of interest, reason I ask is I’m sure most that don’t get on with them is due to it being to bigger blade for them , I.e maybe yours is 1.2 ? and 600 would get better results ( more control imo ) but I totally understand everyone likes and uses different techniques and sizes and trowels

It was the 1200 white and blue and the 600 new metal version, it’s obviously me because so many people think they’re great. I like the Refina spat and think the eze spat would be more my cup of tea. Just thinking I would like to be laying on neater as well.

Don’t think the ox ones are much kop, I have the original blue blade set only use the 1200.

when i was plastering with the old man (a good few moons ago now).. we never used to flatten the first.. pretty much went straight on it with the second and as someone mentioned sort of flattened as second was going on.. feels like the gear has changed so much now compared with ten years ago o_O
i personally use board finishg for everything and always have done, got more body to it so is easier to put on neater

You probably put it on flat though

I was always taught to flatten in between coats... tidy ceiling line up if needs be then second coat.

I always speedskim now but i was also always taught to feather edge my corners etc to straighten them up... so the speedskim was a no brainer.

I lay on pretty neat and always make tge first coat a bit stiffer than the second :-)

Works for me :-)

How does extra time compare to just using nice cheap cream of tartre?

Don’t know what cream of tartar is like in multi I’ve only ever put it on my scampi.
I had the xtratime for free to try out. It’s usually a rolling gauge if a massive area.

Interesting mate. I think I know what u mean about feathering you edges but what about the opposite stroke to the lay on? Doesn't it have misses etc?
