Hi everyone ,

I’ve seen a lot of videos on tic toc of plasterer’s skimming a full room in one hit.

I’ve was always learnt to do 2 walls opposite and let dry and and then the next set do the opposite.

Does anyone here do the full room without the edges drying if so what’s your method on the corners turning out well and straight? What tools do you use to get that nice straight line?

Just do the same as the lads on YouTube surely ?

You want to put loads on you need to roll your set there's a thread on here some where. But it's more about quality then quantity

When you say “use” do you mean you? Or are you talking about using something?

ok...

the likes of @algeeman and @scottie5 I know put on big sets... and I mean really big sets....

I actually liked working with wet corners, i was taught to use a corner trowel and it works really well... practice but a tip I would say is get teh corners near and only use teh corner trowel when it is firming up...

The next thing is speed... you need to be moving quickly and methodically... this comes with practice... you need to be organised... water ready clean buckets ready gear ready etc etc...

then get slashing it on.... get it on neat and don't panic... one key thing to slowing a set down is if you 2nd coat your work sooner....

get the lid on and the reveals, spin up again set the 2 smaller walls, drop back and 2nd coat the lid and reveals, spin up again and set the 2 longer walls... get the 2 short walls 2nd coated if you can with this mix as well then second coat the other walls....

search for rolling set on here or rolling gauge...

Personally for me just charge more money and take your time...

I see plastering like smoking ever bag you mix up knocks 5 mins off your life...

I’ve always been learnt to do 2 coats and I’ve always coated straight over the first coat right away then trowel until dry then work start the next set etc.

Now that’s all good in a house that needs loads of work done but the likes of this method would be handy in doing a single room as it would cut down time.

It was just odd seeing this being done for the first time even sponge floating is something I’ve never seen before lol. I honestly thought it was a way that people hadn’t a clue how to skim and this was what they were now doing.

Same as the hardwall I’ve never seen that before either we have always used sand and cement or bonding.

So many new ways I’m probably missing out on making a job easier.Same as the blue grit??? I’ve never used that before either.

I’ll have to read up on the forum and see what I can add too my daily work. I’m like most here and don’t skim everyday it could be outside or in depending on how the weather looks that morning.

How long you been in the trade?
 
I don't get this Skim a room in a day. If there's 2of you fine . But on your own. You price it for 2 easy days ,leave it all clean . Let's say you charge £550. And do it in a day . Customer will say he's quick and good .but he charges £500 a day . No body wants to pay some hairy .fat wonker. That. .

Trust me I take my time lol , I’m just more curious of how people have different methods these days and if they end in as good of a finished product. I never had the speed as most I’ve seen but my end finish imo looks better.

£500 a day is £150000 a year

youl earn that with and more with 40 men on the books

Yeah I’ve noticed this week loads of different tools for skimming aswell that I never seen or if I have seen them I’ve walked on past. I would name a few but I don’t even know what they are called , one was used in a ceiling on a pole it maybe was plastic?
 
I'll be finishing a hsl on Monday the highest f**k*r I've ever done.and biggest charged £1800,and it will take me 5 days usually takes me between 3-4 days shot myself in the foot thinking I'll do it within 3-4 days customer was a pain in the arse with the price I wouldn't change it,only to tell me Friday she's been quoted £1500 for a joiner to do all the storage under her stairs and she was happy with it,this trade will never get the respect it deserves

I can get a small room on in one go and twitch all the angles in. I’m not a full time plastered but I’ve pushed myself to get better with wet angles.

As long as you’ve prepped it properly then you should be ok.

I know my limits though, so on a big room, I’ll do opposites.

I may be wrong, but I reckon doing wet corners leaves a better job as long as the prep is good.
