Ok - I am a tradesman, well ok a painter and decorator but I claim to know a fair bit about the plastering trade after 20+ years. Question? I have just had the outside of my house textured with a 4 to 1 mix which I have left to dry out for 12 days now. I started to paint the house but as soon as I roll it on, it is softening the textured finish. When I pass the roller over the same spot within a few seconds the paint is pulling off the top of the render making it very difficult to paint. I can stop this happening by using a stabilising solution to bind the surface before painting and this does work, I have tested. Now my question to all you knowledgable folk out there is 1) should I have to stabilise a new texteured finish?
2)why might this be happening, the softening when painting?
3) If the answer to question 1 is no, is this something the plasterer would be expected to contribute towards financially to correct
4) Because the finish is soft before stabilizing, is it possible that it will susceptable to breaking down in a frost if painted without stabilising and could it still be susceptable even when solution applied.
One thing to note: I can also just wet the new finish with water and softly with my nail make the finish crumble to sand should I be able to do this after the 12 days it has set. Many thanks for your attention and I await responses eagerley.:RpS_wink:
