Speed Awareness

to be honest that is where driving to the conditions comes in to play... unlikely to find a dear in the day time but near where I live there is wild horses so that becomes a factor also if you see one animal there will likely be another coming...

AT junctions and crossroads a driver should be prepared to stop as a biker I was taught to move about my lane to make me as visible as possible to other road users (driving to conditions)

On a straight bit of road with no junctions and good clear sight you could open her up.... most of my fun on a bike comes from the twists and turns and so doing 190 mph is not for me...

The other thing to think about is that police are trained to high level and some are allowed to drive at high speed... a lot of bikers are trained to similar standard... I ride with a number of ex coppers and they can also ride at the speed limit but make progress and people assume they are breaking the speed limit because for them to keep up they need to be doing more than the speed limit :D

I also believe accidents dont happen and there is no such thing as an accident... along the way someone f**k*d up.... not like a meteorite fell out the sky
Saves me typing all this :D.
It's a judgment you have to make all the time when on the road. Your brain should be at least 5 cars ahead and not sticking on the the numberplate of the car in front . It's a very expensive training to become a Jedi ;).I have been in a few disputes and the drivers called the police, just to be told they are wrong! You should see their faces- f**k**g priceless :D. Speed is the problem? Don't forget you have to prove it first and when you go into the problem, it appears actually the speed is your least problem;)

I think all car drivers should get their bike license first... it would make a lot of difference and I think less bkers would get killed.... dont get me wrong I know a few bikers where they have over cooked a corner and killed them selves... my best mate did this and that was down to the lack of training and lack of experience.

On a bike I am not thinking about anything else other than the road ahead... its one reason why I ride its a great way of forgetting any problems or troubles and a jane thinks it helped me more in my recovery than any other treatment...

but only someone who rides would truly get it :D

I will shut up now :D

I think the police recommend not filtering over 20 mph :D if someone is going to switch lanes on you they wont look your hit whether you are doing 60 or 20... the car driver would still be at fault :D

And that is what the problem is. Couple months back I was on the a12 overtook a lorry and I was doing 65ish (which is still more then I'm supposed too) as I was about to pull back in a bike appeared from between us..... remember vans have big blind spots with no rear windows. The thought of what could have happened there doesn't bare thinking about. Way I look at that is that is not filtering that is undertaking.... if I got dragged through court and imprisoned cos of a stupid move from said biker I would not feel guilty about it by the end of it.

To be fair i do think most car driver are dopey sods. And speed doesn't cause the crash but speed is the thing that kills. You will never stop accidents too many people on the roads. We ALL f**k up at times.

The speed limit for filtering on a bike is 15mph , in the town, recommended, but overruled by the definition of safe speed and safe filtering .
@Natwasere it sounds scary, but trust me from the bikers point of view not so much. Majority are able to predict any manoeuvre 5 cars ahead. In your case he knew your next manoeuvre , calculated your speed ,distance , space and made the move. It looks dangerous and chaotic but I can assure you he had you under the radar for a wile to summarise your behaviour and driving style on the road. We are more concentrated because of these manoeuvres , we know we appear and disappear from nowhere and all this is taken into account. We come to agreement even on the motorways when drivers in the fast lane are moving to the outside to make us room. It is an unwritten code . My advice to all drivers is don't make any sudden and lastseconddotcom manoeuvres that can hang on our necks for life. Make sure you execute always OSM and there shouldn't be any problems at all.:)

as I said there are bikers that give others a bad name

dont disagree with that... most bikers will be aware of blind spots and i will also do a weave behind a car to get my headlight in a couple of their mirrors to try and let them know I am there...

Also when I overtake I move out... wait... then go for it... gives the driver a chance to see me and show them that I am going for the overtake... I also dont overtake near junctions....

Also... bikers will move aboout their lane when coming to a brow of a hill they should move to the left of the road just in case something is coming the other way in the middle...

at junctions where traffic is coming from the left I will move to the right of my lane so that it gives drivers a chance to see me and gives me that extra split second to react if I need to...

as @vfr12 said we are most of the time way ahead of car drivers and already predicting their next move way before they even are... hard to explain to people who dont ride...

Try to explain position 1-2-3 and moving as far as possible before a corner or bend for better visual and how actually, when behind a car ready to overtake or undertake, you are looking in the drivers mirrors and wait for him to make visual contact before you proceed. ;)

im the same ....keep an eye out for other drivers decisions.
bikers are sound........i think cyclists are tossers.

90% of the time I would agree with that except it was only because I felt something was wrong that I didn't pull across straight away... I had seen him about 5 cars back but couldn't when overtaking the lorry so was hesitant.

Last week nearly had head on with a biker filtering slow traffic in his lane.... I was going other way in a 30, had no choice but slam the anchors on.

My point is most bikers are no bother and usually better behaved then 4 wheel drivers...... probably me also, but filtering at speed is not filtering in my eyes and it scares me that I could be held accountable for some really stupid monoevers.

No , you won't! I wish I could say that, but you know very well everyone involved in accident has, more or les, contributed for it.

4 days in wales last week and 10 days in Scotland from next week:bananas::bailando:

Good man :D I want to do scotland this year :D I might stick my little honda in a van and go do some green lanes instead though :D The XR will probably end up me losing my license :( need to get some track action in as well at some point :D

i spend a good 10 hours a week on the roads thats alot in a year ....believe me lane hoggers are a big big problem.
on motorways you should go with the flow and keep left until over taking i feel safer in the fast lane.
It's keep left UNLESS you are overtaking! Do you think I have time to educate people? Left or right, doesn't matter. We go where is safe, hense the odd manoeuvres. It's what they teach you on the bike- create your safe bubble.

You sure your bones can handle it? :D

Ah it should be good :D there is 65 bikes in our group going down and about 10 car loads of people as well :D we take over a holiday park and party all weekend :D
It sounds like a traveling party bikers. How many harleys and GS in the group :inocente::D

Still don't agree that you should overtake on the left of a van (No windows) that's travelling at close to maximum speed of any vehicle limit and is only overtaking a lorry.

Take that chance then don't cry when you get hit and bikers are the vulnerable ones, crazy mofos lol
