This is a question for all those plasterers that use a speed skim and get on with it, are you able to put more on? i mean for example, my set is 3 bags first coat, on nice and neat, flatten in where needed and do something else for a bit, 2 bag second coat, cup of tea, flatten in, drink more tea do a bit of talking, wet trowel, more talking and dry trowel, what i want to know is can the speed skim buy me enough time to put on another 3 bags inbetween my second coat and first trowel, have done this in the past but i get a bit more nackered these days, how does it work for you.

Na!!! But you might squeeze in two more cups of tea, and the particle vibration affords extra biscuit time:RpS_thumbup:

Sounds to me like your getting plenty bud. 5 bag first hit , on your own? How many bags are you laying a day on average?

I think it's a big day if I do five bags period...

Hello Olican yes on my own, depends what job im on really but average anywhere between 8 and 12 bags depends how nackered i am, dont feel like i can it up, and looking to make the work easier. What are your experiances with the speed skim?

Fair play. Don't use one myself, sounds like your doing good metres. Done a lot of work in Somerset, always got good rates up there. Read back on old threads, speedskim topic has been well covered

I could bang 12 bags on a day easy, my finish would similar to everyone else throwing a dozen bags on though....

Three bag hit, should be able to lay it down with one bag if its nice and flat, two bags as a second coat would be way too much. As for how much you use it will depend on background, we often do a three bag hit as a two and one gang sometimes four bag hit with it been laid down with less than fifty percent for second coat, not big areas lots of small areas, beams etc, done a 12 bag hit one day on a massive ceiling but could not do that now..

Im sure speed skim would come in handy for you if your laying on the amount of meters you say you are , its just a tool like any other we use , i know its tuff out there still and prices are tight on site (if thats your type of work ) , but if your looking to make work easier , i think you should look into your rates of pay rather than looking for a tool to do it , just my opinion . Your using 8 - 10 bags a day so thats about 100 - 120 m2 a day thats a major effort on a daily basis , your body wont let you do that forever .

To answer re speedskim, handy on big flat walls and ceilings, for non flat areas or small areas there is no real purpose to it.

The only time I've managed 12 bags at once was f'ing Haribos and had gut ache all afternoon!! :RpS_scared:

They're good for flattening in but if you get it nice n flat straight away I wouldn't bother as I don't think they save that much time. But sayin that I don't get as much on as thee. You must be getting a fair whack for 12 bags a day so just buy one n give it ago.

I like the speedskim. But it's not a panacea for everything. It just flattens. Maybe this will help:

:RpS_laugh: some of you made me laugh, maybe it would of been better to say when im house bashing or on big cielings 8-12 bags a day, work is of top quality otherwise i wouldnt have the work, thats where i need a little help, i am getting fooked and cant keep it up for more than a week before i cave in for a day or 2, meterage isnt bad around here but not on 360 a day although it would be nice, on normal domestic stuff again dependant on what it is 6 bags a day but we all have those small jobs where 3 bags is all thats needed, so im no super hero but you can call me 1 if you want, dont know how you lot work but it sounds like your slow:RpS_lol:, **** if all i done on site was 5 bags i would be sent on.

just get a speedskim and give it a go, i like mine and use it when ever i can, not to get more on just to make life a bit easier.
