Chizam.. Need a hand pal?

Dead around these parts.. In fact nearly all the tradesmen I've hired have been from up your way as there's nobody around here who ain't a jack of all .sadly..

Just read this thread and its good to see one stay on topic and full of constructive advice and positive posts :RpS_thumbup:

80% of my work I price up to on my own mate
got a house re-furs on hold at the mo tho, just waiting for the asbestos team to come in........

to be honest if you take a look at a thread I put up before, Im not looking for much payment, even if its simply help with travel :RpS_thumbup:

in all honesty learning the trade is my "payment"

If im sounding desperate to get a foot in the door, thats because I am
but I appreciate not everyone is able to take somebody on.

Im 22 mate, course didnt cost anything

would have been a full college course over 3 years, with the later half split between college and site work.

I have two options available:

1. private course - 6 weeks at like £1500
2. tag along with a plasterer for free/low pay as long as they allow me to

Id prefer option 2, but living in the middle of nowhere limits that massively
though Id travel to the city (cardiff) which is about 30mins away quite happily.

Its hard work shifting large deliveries I'll give you that lol
But I didn't want an easy walk in the park.
Would be all to easy to f*** it all off and live on the dole.

I'll likely still be at it..

In the same way a lot of forum members are/will be.
You do what you have to do to

the ideas alot better than the reality like. if i could go back now i would all day long. it my joints n tht are ****** all ready so god help me in ten years. even finding work now is difficult so you could find yourself on the dole regardless

Even tho in my opinion plastering is one of the hardest trades plumbers, chippys and brickies say they can plaster for a fraction of the price!!

hence why I'm going back to college in sept to do plumbing!!

I could do Marc, but you tend to regret what you don't do rather than what you do.

I went to college from school as a chippy
And like a twut packed it in to focus on being a "lad"
That's a regret.. No way is it happening twice lol

with all respect marc, its just not what I want.

I still very much enjoy carpentry but more cabinet/furniture than linings and stud work

Stick around on here Lee there's always something popping up, in different areas,
work wise I mean :RpS_thumbup:
Nice name by the way :RpS_thumbsup:

I'm sure the employers don't realise they can get £2500 from the CITB if they employ u.

Id agree with that Coop,

mind you, Im not sure on how it all works myself, you have any experience with it?
I have a suspicion its a ton of paperwork on the employers end..

I'll be giving a few spreads a call tonight , see how that pans out
if you can give me any info on the CITB stuff I can perhaps mention it then! :RpS_thumbup:

Well, it paid off.

I am in :RpS_thumbsup:

Cardiff Construction College , 3 years

Cheers mate.

Yeah need to get on board with somebody asap.
Hopefully if a spread knows starting/started college it will put them at ease.

Been doing small walls in my own house
And have a stud wall set up in my garage
Which I PVA over and reskim a few times then tear down and re sheet etc

Good idea. You should PVA it 5:1 and reskim over each time . That way you are just priming it. After about 6 times reskimming it, you can take it off with a pair scraper in minutes. Saves you re boarding it.

Nice one, I think you should try to start Level 2 as level 1 is way too basic. As your adult not a boy as you have transferable skills .....

I'm using The Plasterers Forum Mobile App

unfortunately I have to start level 1 and progress through the levels.
in fact they normally have an "introduction to plastering and rendering & fibrous" before you can apply to level 1.
