The final coat render thread, got me thinking ,the more lime you put in your mix does it make your mix stronger or weaker, cos hydrated lime does set.for example 4/1 scratch coat ,you go on top with 4/1/1 is the lime making it stronger or weaker

Yea I agree, but I've had this before wiv a couple of spreads, who thought putting lime in the top coat of the same mix as the scratch made it stronger,it was my job and it did sow a seed of doubt,

Na they are wrong pal. That 1st year theory at college stuff lol :RpS_thumbup:
I'm glad you can remember all that ,I'm going back to 1982 when I started college,I can't remember what I was doing last week:RpS_w00t:,but when u think hydrated lime does set

Yes it does but not like cement does its more brittle.I only use it in render if I'm tyroleaning it. I started college in 88 and surprised I remember myself lol even remembered about gypsum rock in the other thread so need to lie down now for a bit :RpS_laugh:

If you had done the 2 day gold trowel render course you would know all this marra

Lime is softer than cement
The perfect mix is 6.1.1
Sand cement lime
The reason for the lime is to
Make it more spreadable and breathable
A lot of people use plasterciser instead

Frank I know all that, and I know lime is weaker than cement, but would lime make a 4/1/1 mix stronger or weaker than a 4:1 mix

I done a tyrolean job the other week and for some reason completely forgot the lime till I read the tyrolean post lol no probs with it fank ****
