My pal wants me to tank a small basement,it's painted brick work, over the phone I said a hack the paint off,b sand blast it d fit ribbed eml, I had suggested membrane tanking but that's rejected,

so so he wants k 11 sovereign as I had told him this before, problem is if I use ribbed lath then k 11 is not really useful I think due to depth of ribbed lath etc.
i was thinking k11 with sovereign sbr ,2 coats, then renovating plaster then skim!
    Whats the thinking on this...
no rising damp. Ps we're scooping into the floor ..

surely k11 and sbr become a membrane when set ? and the rest is personnel preference, sounds fine to me without viewing it

All the waterproof slurries/renders rely on adhering to the sub straight.

Get the paint off and away you go.

Depends how bad the damp is ,I done a job in Clapham 25 years ago ,(Bolingbrook grove ,u know where that is john) two coats sand and cement waterproofer, the damp was so bad it just pushed the s&c off the wall,I personally would use the Platon system

I will decide once I have eyes on it

give that job a miss, why risk your money on that spec ?
i would only fit newton lath or bitchateen with a sand and cement render to a float finish if pushed very hard.

Just get a scabbler on it john then there's no adhesion issues. Your familiar with sika 1-2-3 aren't you? Stick with what you know best when it's comes to damp/water ingress.

Been doing sika since day . Problem or a fear of sika is the rigidity of the render against the fluidity of the brickwork

Meaning it's piss wet through or smooth?
No referring to the strength of sika render compared to the substrate with possible cracking following from this..I thought k11 and renovating plaster may be an easier route and less prone to cracks

They are all brittle and crack mate. If the brickwork is that bad your only option is to membrane it.

If he wants a render finish just use a mesh membrane on the walls.
