Plasterman let me tell you, you are a spring chicken compared to me and Rigsby when I was your age I was running Marathons and proper grafting the last few months ive just started to feel my age and it aint nice mate it will catch up on you sooner than you think, trust me.

I think it is also to do with your genes.

My Mothers side has had no arthritis or muscle problems but my Father had arthritis and joint/muscle problems as long as I can remember.

It's about working smarter not harder. A young lad loading hundreds of bags of krend to the back of the site we're on, ground was all open so he was lugging on his shoulder. Told him to alternate shoulders and lift with his legs, he looked at me like I was mental (not a wrong assessment)
20 years ago I thought I was invincible, never felt a strain in anything I did. But trust me it will catch up with you no matter how fit you are.

After my last consultation with my doc, he told me I would never plaster again.:RpS_scared:
"Is it that bad?" I asked him.:-(
He replied "No, it's just that you're a lazy bar stard" :-0

So true! I used to pick bags up the wrong way in my late teens early twenties, get a bit of back ache, next morning pain gone. But all those little muscle pulls which you soon recover from leave a little damaged and not quite 100% repaired tear. Come your 40's+ and all those little tears join up and become a big tear. Now I always two anything if I can.

Once you have had RSI and Tennis Elbow, you think twice before you lift anything or do a two man job on your tod.

So true... I went to a job last week as a subby and looked at stairs, winding ones you couldn't get a 8x4 up so they had cut a hole out of kitchen floor to pass boards up . told him forget it im not interested , he couldn't understand why........ I work on my own (dimwit) sprung to mind :RpS_lol:

My doc refused me a cortisone , he stated they used to give them out willy nilly but have stopped as this would kid u into thinking everything is fine I.e masking the real damage and it would make matters worse in the long run ,makes sense when u think about it

Also a refusal is cheaper.

its no wonder a lot of well elderly plasterers are feeling it for years we lugged 50kg bags up god knows how many flights of stairs and they used to tape 2sheets of 8 by 4 p/board together

This is what a doctor told me years ago! The same applies to pain killers. Pain is natures way of telling us something is wrong and me need time to heal. Pain killers disguise the pain so we keep using the joints or muscles that are damaged and that makes matters worse.
