the wheat from the chaff

So @The Hobo are you not actually qualified?
When you said "time served" I assumed you meant having done an apprenticeship.
I started in 81 with D Leggett, but after about eight months I was with my old man.
I've run cornice in situ, fitted cast cornice and ceiling roses but definitely wouldn't consider myself a fibrehand.
Personally I don't think you need to know anything about it to be a plasterer. Many full-time fibre guys wouldn't have a scooby doing float and set. I know this as they've told me themselves.

you dissapoint me andy course im time served with old guys that new their stuff when i started there was no bagged backing coats no angle beads no tile adhesives no 8x4 boards it was all lime work fibrous came in later in life when i met a fibrous plaster who i did a lotof work with by the way its a totaly seperate trade to ours he learned me his craft and learned him mine

y ea i can remember going home in tears not wanting to go in again but my old man said i will kick your ass if u dont
There's a level of cruelty to it, but if you can take it you just get use to it.
It's a man's world or was, some people just don't know how to find their feet in situations like that.

There's definitely a difference, the company I served my time with did mostly solid work.
My tradesman was the go to guy for fibrous work so I got a bit more experience over what we were doing in college.
On jobs that required a lot of fibrous work, it was subbed out to a specialist fibrous firm, their lads wouldn't do much solid work. They'd be out of their depth doing float and set on a measure.

Some of us appreciate the craft
Your mis-interpitating what I'm saying.its plastering why do I care if I can't run a cornice? Couldn't give a monkeys.i can s@c,lime,float n set, skim and dry line.couldnt careless if somebody can do abit of fibrous and I can't its not something I worry about tbh my bank balance tells me I'm doing ok.im time served level 3 city n guilds qualified and it means f**k all

Regardless of how we all got here it's been good to me and probably you too.
I mean that financially, I left school with two O grades, so to get an apprenticeship was great.
This was in eighties so I felt very lucky, not long after I finished my time I decided to try something different a regular job, I lasted a month being a general dogsbody and quit.

I’m wondering if it’s time for me to join in this dick swinging contest yet??

Fully qualified, apprenticeship time served and 3rd Generation Spread.

I’ll just leave that there. :maraca:
Did you ever get to have your dad, grandad and yourself working on the same jobs?

Mate I'm not missing what you're saying, it's clear. I said some of us appreciate the craft. I'm not implying that you have to too.
I'm not putting anyone who can't do fibrous down either. I haven't done any myself for years
