as said you have to move with times,im a fibrous hand and there is that kind of work around but its few and far between.folk wont pay it.you can buy a ceiling rose for about 15 quid, i couldnt make one for that

i made a reverse mould and cast 5 ceiling roses from one bag of casting plaster they cost me about £2 to make mate, i dont want to move with the times mate. i am not ever going to be a skimmer or a dryliner. i am a plasterer and i want to be able to do every aspect of plastering to the highest of standards. the amount of people that say that they love all the fancy plaster work but didnt know anyone did it any more :)

Good for Kirk, if you can push that nish and works for you all the better.Best to try things ,This time next year Rodders, well al be millionares.

took me a full day once to take the pattern then cut and make the profile another day to run the bench moulds along with the hessian

your preching to the converted mate i agree,a plasterer should be able to cover all aspects but theses wanky courses are here to stay im afraid.
over the years tho its getting less and less demand for it, i use to do a lot for national trust but theyve cut there budgets right back.its the moulds etc that take time.ive an old school spread who works for me and hes a wizz at it,he says back in the day they destroyed every shoe and mould once they run a cornice,so no mould in any house was exactly the same, like an artist to be fair, its a real craft.dont even know if they teach it as part of your time any more,i did it as part of my advanced craft when i was an apprentice.
