If you spent 3/5 years training to be a plasterer would you throw out your paperwork to prove that?

I was chatting to a chippy who said he has thrown it all out and that is why he cant get the right cscs card... I smelt a rat to be honest...

You work that hard then to discard them... yeah right...

3 year apprentership in brickwork .... still have old college work & certificate ect
All In a box in loft .....never shown them , but I'd not throw them

i did have my apprentice papers they were kept at my mothers home. she died about 5 years ago i have not seen them since. my brother may have kept them as he cleared her home.
the only time i have been asked to produce them was when working on rotterdam university. i was told that a british apprenticeship was not a recognized qualification in europe. i told them that i was not going to do anything else and that was that !
i would still serve a 5 year apprenticeship today as it has given my family and myself a good living and after 52 years i have never been unemployed. the apprentices that i have taught still thank me for training i gave them to earn their own living.
i was lucky as my parents supported both myself and my brother through our apprenticeships. one of our pals who has now retired, had to work as a labourer to learn the craft he needed the extra money as both his parents were alcoholics and he was living on his own in a bedsit from the age of 15.

Hi Danny you don't need to show your papers to get correct cscs card . Do the health and safety test then apply for card if you are what you say you are they will know

I did a citb course and skills test etc and I haven't got a clue where my papers might even be!!!
Never needed them once.

If I went to UK to work what would I do?
I thought cscs cards was a safety card?

I've got my Grandads indenture from 1942, it's interesting reading, it's got a seal on it, properly legally binding document, My sons waiting for CITB to send him his deeds back too, 4 generations of Tradesmen

my indenture was like the one that you describe it was issued by the master builders federation in 1963.
the first i knew about the citb was in the 70s when they tried to stop 2% of your wages. but no one can make a deduction from your wages without your agreement so they got told NO thankyou !

If you need the skilled worker cscs card then you need to present nvq level or equivalent . Says on the card what trade you are and qualification .

I got given a level 2 NVQ in EWI and I've was assessed on job by skimming a ceiling!
It's a joke now a days.
I only done it so have the paperwork if I ever need it but like a lot of guarantees there not worth the paper there wrote on!

I've got no papers, learnt everything on site from 15 collage is a waste of time nowadays unless you want to learn how to throw plaster at each other then claim your a qualified plasterer.

o dear another - thread going off at a tangent, lets have another go at the colleges tutors and assessors, like all walks of life there are good bad and chancer's in all trades - :inocente: we all cant be the best, fastest, cleanest, plasterer on the forum - unless there is 20.ooo of us sharing first spot:numberone:  ----------- then again some colleges, tutors and assessors don't promote the high standards that,s required -------------- but perhaps that,s to do with funding or the lack of it
