Thoughts on the sponge float

I remember reading on here ages ago on the sponge topic....many posted about it is ideal on board work ? ..heavy coat,fill out yer beads etc, then sponge at the right time.
now its good for deeper fills??? Im lost now?

i used it over artex ceilings today. it was ace. not the first time i do this all the time. give it a sponge and its like your trowelling up on board. no pattern blooming through. no need for the magic mix. these are just my own personal experiences. just things that give me that added advantage without compromising on quality.

i heard a programme on the radio the other day about marginal gains. looking at something and thinking how can you change it to get that slightest advantage. thats what the sponge is for me. team sky did it with cycling and some jap fella did it with eating the most hotdogs in a minute. the record was twenty five in a minute and he broke it with fifty in a minute. because he looked at it and thought of a new way. he wasnt shackled by convention.

sorry the photo is on the piddle I used the sponge on some bare plastered walls and ceiling yesterday I did one hit on the 3 walls first coated whack the 2nd it went that quick so whipped the sponge to save my arms and the walls but I used MT thru out

I have to say. Having seen these videos my mind is now so much more at ease as to how I would get a sponge, and rub it over a wall. I have literally spent years with a sponge in my tub thinking if only someone would show me

why rub it circular? he does it the way i would, if i needed to do it.

I did bathroom wall today with the sponge. I put on one heavy coat. had the skim mixed a bit stiffer. I left the first coat for about 15 min then sponge it then give it a trowel with my mt. Then a while later hit it with the super flex 2 more times wall finished I hope lol. The wall is being tiled so I don't mind how it looks. I'll take a picture up close Monday and I'll post it here. Good or bad finish.

Did use speedskim and the plazi for that youth ??

Running a trowel behind this does the same.

Just gets a bit messy.
Its quick easy skimming.

Dont know why I gave it up to be honest !!!

No speedskim just use plazi at end of the set just a quick wipe

I remember years ago there was a shortage of skim in england.
The firm I was on for ordered plaster from ireland.
Never used it but the lads were throwing huge hits on.

No its not like mp at all. The Irish skim is setting fast lately. It's nice to use at the moment. But that can change.

Helped our lass with dinner earlier.
"Take that bag of potatoes, peel half and put them on to boil".
Not sure why she's a bit waspy.

There may be some truth in that but the sponge can be a handy tool where the stuff is on deep for any reason, stops it moving under the trowel, like in the use of universal one coat. Do a search on here plenty of pros and cons

Sponge float Phil.

The rep you keep is all about the finished product, it's not as if 99% of public know how it's done!

This topic amuses me as there is a swarm of people that knock it, yet none of them have tried it
