Seems to me the only effective way of doing this by hand would be to have one spread laying on 1st pass and a labourer mixing up for him and another following behind laing on second pass with a seperate labourer mixing up for him

That's actually a ******* good idea

tellin ya maan we turned out decent work by hand layin mono in two passes with a lab constantly just mixing but it was a breath of fresh air using a pump on coloured rendr and by hand you gotta move like the clappers i mean rapido or more men.
anyway if something goes wrong its alot of work and you can easily lose a job applying by hand if its a big size.

We got a pump now the differnece is amazing, on it goes perfectly, for colours machine application only is the way forward unless its a small job you need less men as well.

it just the way you set up do it right and by hand it aint a big deal most people knock it up in a tub and then take it from the tub with a bucket trowel waste of time get your board and stand out load it up and the tub is free for next mix doing it in two passes gives you more time aswell

If your really interested in seeing what difference a machine will make then ask around on here and see if you can pitch up with a machine gang for a day and see how they do things. as for what spunky says about the machine packing up, we have never had a machine pack up to the point you cant finish the spray. its normally user error apart from when the forklift drops 2 ton of render on top of your machine which happened last week. that sort of finished the day but we have 5 machines counting the ritmo so even that didn't stop us.

gary ive never tried but i heard if you get 2 butts mix one then mix the other then put the whisk back through the first one it comes out nice like hardwall

is the machine fcuked paul and how come your works still rough:flapper:

I had a pipe blockage halfway through a gable and a R&S pack up on a big gable but near the end. Then there was that job recently when we was 30% through a wall then the machine packed up. No idea what was wrong, ended up the labradaor had not turned the tap on to the water butt! I always have my whisk, bath and tub at hand so while someone is sorting the machine out the labrador is mixing a bath full then while I am using that he is mixing a tub full. Defeats the object a bit having the hand ball job gear on standby but it works.

SIMP how will you go on if the someone on site trashes a pump ? who sorts the bill out? what happens with the fork lift guy smashing your gear about like coz your the second geezer who told me a fork truck has damaged a pump

Paul if that machine is crushed beyond repair all may not be lost as Spunky keeps saying he'd love a machine and he only buys knackered ones, it could sit in the garage with his Joddy.
