Get a new trowel or scrape all the build up off the back of the trowel so it has more flex in it or just give up cos your shi*te.

Artisan had some pics up of tiger stripes on a wall, he may be along soon to advise how best to achieve this effect!:RpS_sneaky:

To prevent tiger striping you should get your first coat on tight and flat then lay in with fresh stuff and first trowel no water and even pressure

I don't get tiger stripes so it's difficult to convey my thoughts on the subject, but I'll try..........

even if ive notice tiger stripes a cross trowel takes them all out anyway, ive only had them where the substrate suction has changed and ones setting slightly quicker than t'other.

Tiger Stripes, the biggest mystery to haunt Thistle in the last 20 years. We have had gangs who have left decent work for years suddenly get tiger stripes everywhere, usually when they get a new trowel or the seasonal mix of the plaster changes. The best ways to prevent it are a) don't one coat, b) use less water, c) trowel with less edge and at a slightly different time.
It is caused by poor milling of the gypsum but BG will never admit that. I got told this unofficially by the man who actually invented Multi Finish who is now retired and has his pension paid by BG and of course will deny everything. Basically the "fines" in the gypsum don't break down correctly and cause the surface to appear streaky or tiger striped.
