Tlling over tiles

20 mins to knock off , can be dodgy if on plasterboard tho
Any depth issues with going over ? Wouldn't tile on tile in shower personally ( temperature expansion )

Grit and go over, no bother. I recently took off three layers off hotel bathroom.
First layer about 60 years old.
Just stagger joints.
 
Mapei eco prim grip. Paint on ready to go in under an hour. Best pregrit out there. Cannot understand how bg can't produce same sort of product, it spanks theirs.

Clean with citrus cleaner of some sort of good soap. Then sugar soap as chemical cleaner so no soap residue left on surface. 400g sand and Bal white star adhesive will stick solid. That's how I done it a few years ago
 
Bear in mind the weight. 20kg per m2 for plaster, 32kg per m2 for bare plasterboard. In those figures you need to allow 2-4 kg per m2 for adhesive and grout aswell.

I'd always try to remove the old tiles, but having said that, I know that particular product has an excellent reputation, across multiple trades.

I haven't tried it, but I've used various other Mapei products (e.g. Ultraplan self-levelling compound, powdered grout, etc.) and I've never yet found any of their products below par. I now buy Mapei whenever I have a task they make a product for.
 
Out with the old in with the new it’s lazy in any circumstance to leave anything on that’s been replaced!... of course unless the tiles are holding the house up which was quite common in 1830 :oops:

If existing tiles are well-adhered, tiling over them is a practical choice. Clean the surface, apply a suitable tile primer, and use a flexible tile adhesive for the new tiles. Ensure proper leveling and spacing. Grout after the adhesive sets, then consider grout sealing for protection. Removing the old tiles is unnecessary.
