hi,fellas,at my flat which i'm doing up,the kitchen ceiling which has been linned,someone had gone over it with this cement based textured finish,which is unmoveable. even when you go over it with a steamer,sparks come off it. i know it's a sin to plaster over wall paper but if i wba and skim it,will i get away with it? the flats for rental. cheers.

no do it right and over board it :(
 
the ceiling is pure solid concrete,everything in the flat is. i was told as a youngster,it is a sackable offence to skim on wall paper but this stuffs like granite........shame on me
 
let be honest, you knew the answer really but typical landlord wants to do it the cheap way. so i'm pretty sure your going to do what you want anyway. over skim it. (french word) it, its only going to have people living in it that are giving you their hard earned money.
 
If you are going to skim it, just make sure it is sealed, don't be surprised if it works. Make sure everything is dry before you skim. :). What ndo you mean it sparks when the steamer is on it ? :-\
 
it was a reference to the textured paint being like steel,when i try and scrape it off. fkuc knows what it is. i'm going to burn in hell for even thinking about skimming it. think it would be easier just to paint it. forgive me boys
 
Could try scoring it with a stanley. Shut doors and windows to room and leave the steamer on. Repeat a couple of times. Had one like this, took about two hours with just a striper knife and a skirter bottle. I wasn't expecting paper. It was a concrete ceiling where 20mm of a grey undercoat plaster and a skim finish had been put over this stipple effect paper. The only thing holding it up was some coving. Bizarly though, the paper was still stuck to the coat covering the concrete ceiling. You may get away with it, or you might knock someone out and end up in court.

dont float and skim it that will just put more weight on the paper, it will be on the floor the time you come back with your paint to paint it. just wba and skim
