is it advisable to put 2 coats on a new build/concrete block cavity wall, first coat with waterproofer and second with feb then the tyrolean when dry or could i get away with just the one coat with feb then tyrolean i know it want be waterproof but would it be weathproof enough as he wants to paint it the same colour as the house, thanks

2 coat it with 1st coat waterproofed. If you don't waterproof it it will show the joints through after rain. Get the first coat flat as so the second coat has uniform suction throughout. At this time of year you need as much suction as possible so put it on thick as and use a 6:1:1 sand, cement and lime with Feb. The lime will give you that extra suction you will need.

Warn the customer about Lime Bloom at this time of year. If they forecast rain within a day or two after spraying give it a miss. White tyro lean will give better results.

dont need to add feb if your using lime

i use to spray tyrolean as rigby described about 20 years ago. i pricked my ears up when the customer is going to decorate the whole house the same colour!
what i would do is scratchcoat wall without waterproofe additive.
render wall with lime in the mix. i would render in the morning and spray in the afternoon using the same mix left over from render, mixed wetter, spray fine, there is less filling in as the spray and the render are the same colour.
i would earn good money on this job!

Malc would you bother rubbing up the top coat prior to spraying if you were doing the same day, or just rule of then tyro ?

i always rub the rendering up. some plasterers just float up with a devil float as they think that gives a better key.

You might find the render cracks as there is loads of water in the mix. Feb will reduce the amount of water and lessen the risks of cracking or crazing. Good frostproofer for years to come as well. Also super creamy stuff!

Feb replaced lime, you need water for the s/c to set,not enough water because of lime and feb makes the s/c to soft, hence probs, and not soft because of the mix ratio, soft because there's not enough water.

I disagree that not enough water will make the s/c to soft, id be inclined to use as little water as i could get away with providing the mix was workable. I have a bag of cement in the shed that is rock hard and never had water added to it, its air set with moisture. I was taught the more water you add the weaker the mix.

I'm not say its got to be like piss,so why do we cure outside render and floor screeds ? To replace water , helping the cement to set.

That shouldn't matter mate as the cement has already set, id mist the render down purely to slow down the curing time, to achieve maximum strength and reduce cracking.

Ok,think we ve got to agree to disagree,it's to much typing and it's hard to explain.

Ive only ever used weber tyrolean rather than mixing it myself and I personally think it prevents the s&c curing as it should. My old gaffer used to do it the next day and it failed once and I personally think it was too soon. Imo Its no different to top coating a scratch the next day so it should be left to cure fully before spraying. Each to their own but youll never get me doing it.

i would not spray cullamix on render the same day. but when you spray sand and cement onto to sand and cement and it is the same mix it all cures together as one.

I suppose in a way I can see your point but I still think id prefer to devol float it and spray once cured.
