GPS sorry mate but your wrong there is no work in our area for £2.50 per meter and if there was there would be loads of people wanting it

I worked for these prices because thats the price for our area newcstle/m/boro /Durham /darlington I was happy doing this if i wanted more i would need to travel with lodgings away from home to me i didnt want that as i have other income from a hobby from home

nicksey I cannot believe you think the majority of plasterers out there gets more than £750 a week

i think the point is, a lot of people dont find themselves having to throw 100m a day on to make 750 quid, more like 60 metres for the same money, its been the same old story for years no matter what trade your in...
whats the average cost of a 2 bed mid terrace in sunderland say? compare that with anywhere south of nottingham, work out the difference as a percentage and you wont be far off...

tommy youre on price mate so you can earn what you want cant you ;)
i started a job 2 weeks ago that was 9 flats worth 530 each i did 1 week and caught the dryliners up and im doing 2 and a half a week so thats 1200 a week, van supplied , 100 quid fuel and im leaving my house at 4.30 and getting back at 7 ..........without a lab .......i need a new central heating system mate ;D...................... work how hard you want mate its up to you .............

f;ckin hell nicksey how much do you think a new central heating systems gonna cost you? you live in a 12 bed mansion or what? :D
btw i just did the houseprice thing... average in sunderland is 140, in luton its 170...
correct my maths if im wrong but i make that a 21 percent increase....
which at 2.50+21 percent is a little over 3 quid... but before i checked i was under the impression you could buy sunderland town hall for a tenner ;D

cheers dan i done run a good buisness and any body that works for me be it on the books or subby gets treated the same,i can asure anybody that i can go like fook when needed and i am always grafting like a b*tch and my buisness has a good reputation for work not the cheapest but pay peanuts youll get monkeys, have a subby that has started helping me same age as me only met him last ,week but know his old man through his reputation as a spread and his dad is the the daddy respect sir, personnaly have worked as a subby and from that i treat everybody the same, plus if we have a good week lets av some beer

wouldnt have thought 3.5 grand was overly cheap... bloke by us last year was supply and fit 7 rads+combi, surface all pipework, commisioned for 2.5k...that WAS cheap..
i can remember u on about that ages ago, i was thinking that the rate your workin youre thinkin around 7 grand plus... :-?

Brother spreads, good luck to us all in adversity. Lets hope we can keep our heads above water, regardless of rates, i've managed to earn enough to pay the bills and afford a pint tonight, hope you've all managed to do the same x

well danny I like to have my say and stick to the facts as i see them, and not to say what people want to hear but i say what i mean and dont dodge to keep in with the crowd, but this is what makes good forums

you work for someone else at an hourly rate you do 2 small sets a day maybe 35 metres tops.. ( or one decent set if no-ones about)
8 hour day x 12.50 = 100 quid (funnily enough)
nobody is gonna pay more than that, people will just take the p'ss anyway... the agencies gonna be charging 18 quid an hour to the customer...
8 x 18 = 164
100 / 35 = 2.85 or lets say 2.50 for arguments sake..
164 / 35 = 4.68 or lets say 4.50
welcome to the layer cake son  ;)

GPS what do I have to do, this is the norm there are very few plasterering firms taking people on all over the uk its a fact how can u say its not the norm?
you show me jobs online or give phone numbers out that pay £1000 a week your dreaming m8 theres my challenge to you prove it, without excuses

and bigsegs i dont know what your argument is I totaly agree with you some people will work for min wage £5.52 thats a fact I will work for £750 per week end of

tommy tommy what can i say, I have my own company and in my experiance agency plasterers are very very poor, and can do no more than 35m a day, however tommy that is in the south east, it may very well be diffirent where you are, and i know times are tough and we all have take what we can at whatever price.

i suppose what im sayin is 'the going rate' depends on a number of factors, such as where you are in the country, what your circumstances are e.g. subbie, main contractor, jobber, agency worker and what exactly the job entails, be it newbuild on board, newbuild on dodgy board but with added f'ckaround, supply, labour only, overskim on paint, overskim on artex, overskim with added f'ckaround...
and maybe how good you are at negotiation...
or just how skilled / confident you are...
or the quality of finish you produce (including things like leaving a spotless job afterwards)
and how much people are prepared to pay or more importantly, what its worth to them...
which leads us back to...
the fact that if everyone stood theyre ground and demanded 3 - 3.50 a metre then that is what the 'going rate' would be....
the fact that theres no work isnt our fault, for that we can blame tony and gordon...
but when the work does pick back up again its gonna be difficult to get prices back up again till there aint enough plasterers to go round....
all im doing is makin observations i suppose, hey maybe thats what tony and now gordon planned all along - cripple the building trade so that prices drop to pathetic levels, then when everyones on their arse deperate for work, fire up a new campaign of 'building new houses to cope with the population boom' and they get it all done for f'ck all...
food for thought perhaps??

To be honest i try to get between 180-250 per day on my jobs, i'm in the south but have lived in the north for 4 years 'Liverpool'. People who say we have it easy down here haven't lived down here...as soon as you arrive in the south you will notice it costs you about 10p a litre more to fill up your car...that 2 bed terrace you had up north for 450 a month will cost 650 down here etc etc that is the reality of it. The reason there arn't many northerners down here is because they can't afford to relocate!

If you do good business in the domestic market you will make good money...alot of the guys who have cheap day rates may be able to do a good job but will never take advantage of a lucrative market because they have no business, communication, marketing, advertising, financial etc skills. If you work for less than 150 a day somebody is making money out of you whether its the customer, contractor, agency etc. Plastering is not a dead end job its a skilled trade which is high in demand...and theres plenty of work around.

Its good to have a pricing structure but remember everybody will be different so even if you go in high if you can sell yourself to the customer chances are you will get the work.

Theres alot of negative people around at the mo...'think i'm going to have to sign on etc'. Don't worry bout that trust me this is the time to make good money!!
