I know theres a few people who have gave a wee review so thought i'd add mines.

Ive been using it for the last couple of weeks going over all kinds of backgrounds. It is nice stuff to coat and it seems to cover more M2 than a normal bag of finish. I skimmed over a couple of artex ceilings with it which were painted with a silky type paint, the first ceiling took forever to set and went really greasey and had a few blebs in it and to be honest I wasn't really happy with the fnish. I put this down to putting the second coat on too soon. The second ceiling I waited around 30 - 45 mins before applying the second coat and this went much better and the finish was great. I also done a few walls that had a matt paint on them which was on pretty thin and some had been scrapped off back to the original plaster, the first and second coat pulled in really quick and luckily they were only small and I got them under control.
Today I went over unpainted skim, the old grey colour, after it pulling in quickly on the matt painted walls, I thought i'd be better to give the walls a couple of coats of pva first. Even after doin that it pulled in even faster than on the matt paint. Again these were small walls and I got them under control but at one point I thought I had lost it and would need to redo.

I think It is a good product going over any low suction background like silk paint and the kitchen or bathroom paint that is glossy. Anything else its useless without giving the background the same amount of pva that you would use with multi, which totally defeats the purpose.

Not used it personally and don't think I will.

Just seems a little far fetched and questionable that you can just open a bag mix it and throw it on, bg are trying to cut out the preparation process when it's the most important part, I think it might come back and bite them in the arse

What does it say about skimming over bonding, hardwall surely it's just going to pull in like fook if left un-prepped.

That extra time s**t looks good I thought bg would have brought something like that out to run along side their products

It says any high suction background to add further coats if its pullling in too quick, but I tired that on the unpainted skim and it never really made a difference. It says you might need to put a coat of pva on high suction back coats, but then whats the point in paying a tenner a bag and doing the same process that you could do with a fiver a bag stuff

I Been testing the extra time with unifinish for this exact reason this week.

On the low suction u get bags of time with unifinish on high suction it does pull fast.if the extra time stops this happening it's happy days..if people want to use it.

Doesn't pull in fast on hard wall and backing coats if they are fresh though.

If that helps

Just had a watch of these.

Seems like you have to fook about 2/3 coating high suction backgrounds as said, putting half a wall on and laying the the second coat in before hitting the high suction areas or something along them lines.

Not saying it's a bad product but imagine having 2 x 2.5 x 4 metre wide walls and having to fook about doing areas at a different pace, I suppose it would be good over artex ceilings but multiple substrates ?

Pva only takes 2 mins to do and 5 mins to go tacky which is time we spend getting ready to mix, beading or watching videos of women who have wind sat in van

Plasterman I'm not being funny but here's what I think s**t over bonding blisters to fuk , had a painted ceiling last week 5 hr set I kid you not I was wishing I had multi and pva the thing as would have taken half the time ,used it on a wall part board part painted plus bits of bonding here n there bang straight away gone off on painted part board hung to Feck and bonding part needed four coats to get it back its utter dog shite ,you cannot beat grit and multi its mustard also at 10 quid a bag with discount it's taking the piss, all it's good for is if you have loads of patching . I was hoping it would work but it's naff X

Mate that's fine I not here to try and change anyone's opinion I am sure u and most plasterers on here are good at there job and know what they like or dislike in terms of any products used.

End of the day I am self employed plasterer who goes to shitty jobs just like everyone else.

Some like it,some don't

Seen him slate it before ...think most people will or won't now Stu..it's not rocket science u were right I did give all positive and then tried to help on the negatives what more can be said.hats off to the guy who posted he gave it a shot and knows when it's good to use..that extra time holds it back on high suction which is good enough for me.

You've changed :)

Christmas is coming and I planning on new year...
Getting a machine and moving to exteriors lol..i be all over the machine and monocouche post 2016 until they tell me to piss off as well.
Happy new year
I'm thinking of a machine too, what you going for? I've had it with plastering, guys on Facebook earlier moaning how plasterers were ripping old folk off for daring to make a wage then boasting they did it for £100.

I don't go on the Facebook ones ,seems like there is next to no one with any experience on there and a lot of the posts I think are nicked from here.on forum u can av a good debate about something and it's helpful on them it's just a small comment.
Can't make my mind up on machine the big promix,I saw at construction show from Ryan was nice £17 500 but I see the dudes with the ritmos and been looking into all of them too.i not bothered about the cost it's just got to be the right one I am 40 now and started turning away renders as main help is my old boss 54 yrs old and he not bothered about bigger jobs but with the machine we would be sorted he can run the machine downstairs and I do the render upstairs with one more spread.
My thinking is now I got to make as much as I can 40 - 50 years old.

Stuart do you get much rendering where you are? I've never been asked to do any sort of render and to be honest I dont know how keen I would be to do it, ive been to the k rend 1 day course and went to a 1 day course through johnstones decorating centre but its easy enough doing about 2m2 base coat then moving to another section and applying the top coat then moving to another section ready for finishing. Doing a full house or extension would be a different story i think. Although I have seen a couple of new builds and extensions in and around my area being finished with some sort of render I'd say about 99% is still harling.

Doing more and more every year and it seems to be where the cash is so thinking of getting a machine and concentrating on it full time. I'm honestly done with plastering, the graft you have to do for the money just isn't right.

I'm same, forty year old but feel older. I'll no be spending that kind of cash on a machine, second hand one first to see how I get on with it. I enjoy rendering, much better job satisfaction than plastering. Also working on the railways part time just now and going through courses to get my tickets to eventually go full time on it, good money for doing very little. Need a get out plan as plastering is seriously bringing me down.

Are the calls coming in thick and fast around you ? right now I never been so busy since I started on my own 2002.i know what u saying I find I have ups and downs of how I feel bout plastering but try to sift out the crap more now.
Magnetic has been a nice different way of work for me in the last 2 years it's one mix a day but it's a hard sell and had to put a lot of time and effort into getting going. If u think the rails is the way though good.My bro is 48 just packed up plastering full time and working on mechanic in week and odd plastering jobs when he wants.he just had enough of the s**t.

Thing is how long can you keep doing it? My knees, elbows and back are feeling it big time just now. Got a young lad who's a grafter that's worked with me since he left school at 16, if he wasn't such a grafter I would have packed in long ago. He's 24 now and getting a lot of home jobs and I know he's itching to start up for himself but he's been loyal so far. He's more interested in Roughcasting and rendering as well and we have discussed the machine and he's well up for it, might just give it one last push myself before I step away. If it doesn't work the machine will get sold, I'll go on railways and the lad can take over the business.

Think u should, after our earlier ding dongs think its turned out we are quite similar..the aches n pain is one honest reason I do like the unifinish though..not rolling out the pva is one less thing to do,lol.
All best with it all up Scotland ..i sure there will be some older dudes reading this thread thinking...
What a pair of moaning puff's.

@BritishGypsum just a quick one, why is the sell by date on uni nearly a year and multie a few months? Also why is it not printed on the bag rather than a sticker? Noticed a similar thing on the thistle bond-it no sell by date just a sticker which can easily be swapped.

Heard they are dropping bags in Syria but some idiot has put in too much extra time and there not going off ;)

You defo been using it ...how would you know the sell by dates are longer!
Don't say a friend told ya..:bailando:
Don't be shy share your experience,:musculoso:
I read it on the pallet they still have in B &Q that isn't getting any lower, so thought I would read the sell by date, simple, if I used it I would say but I won't be paying £11 a bag.
