Hi can anyone help, i have a kitchen to plaster, the client has taken tiles off the wall to find it has straw underneath????????, its quite modern the bungalow and the straw is only on 2 walls..internal partitions. it looks like it has the paper from plasterboard ontop then straw and it's patchy, any suggestions of how to overcome this problem?????

Its a pre cursor to plasterboard it was called strammet, either overboard and skim or kill any suction bond then skim.

I have seen this before... yep its like plasterboard made out of straw with paper over it :)

I used bonding plaster and that is still going strong now :)

Wasn't it used as a cheap way to insulate the house?

I dont think insulation values were given much thought back then.
I think it was more a case of saving a few quid by not having to build a stud wall, and then board both sides.
As Technically its a combined board and stud in one.
