Variable speed paddle mixer

Hi Guys,

I am looking for a paddle mixer for a use different to most of you guys, it is for brewing up pilot batches of chemicals (i.e. prior to a mix going into full production on the large scale process equipment). The products it will be used with will generally be low viscosity with the thickest being along the lines of honey (so nothing compared to the load presented by plaster etc.). Importantly, it will be something that needs to be accommodated by a stand of some sort.

Initially I was looking at Vitrex, they have a stand, the more powerful single blade mixer wasn't too expensive and it had a speed control which you could dial up and lock. Perfect, except that this is going to be something that could be used quite often and I don't want to have to replace it in 6 months time (something I have been told is common with budget offerings). To that end, I came across eibenstock/refina/alfra which I understand are the rolls royce in this area. They also look like they adapt to the variety of stands available from these guys. The only thing is the speed control - the alfra and eibenstock versions look to be variable but the refina says it is 2 speed only, albeit with variable soft start. Does anyone have experience of these 3? How does the speed control work? I know they have a lock-on setting but can you control the speed at which it locks on? Is there some dial or setting the varies the speed, or is it simply the position of the 'trigger'?

Many thanks

Adam

Thanks, I will look it up. I don't immediately see a stand to accompany it though - this is a must in this application because I could potentially need to leave something mixing for half an hour at a time and I can't afford to stand there the whole time!

i would have a good look at the belle 1600e mixer as there are 5 different speed settings.

Thanks guys. The Belle tubmixer isn't flexible enough, I need the option to have a stand mixer but also to have it easily used by hand so that I can swap over to various potential mixing vessels. The belle 1600e, again, looks good but there is no stand to mate it with.

I am presuming from the responses that the eibenstock/refina/alfra units only lock on at full speeds so, short of standing controlling the trigger, I would only have two speeds available to me whilst on the stands?

The other question, I guess, is whether there are any universal stands which will fit almost any of these mixer types?

Thanks

Thanks once more. As the potential cost is spiralling, perhaps I need to ask just how bad the lower cost machines are? The vitrex 1400W and stand I can get for £150 which is probably about 1/5 of what the higher end options will cost. Yet, it gives me all the other characteristics I am after. Is it really something that will fail quickly or will the low viscosity of most of my batches be a low load and present it limited difficulty?

They will carry a one year warranty anyway so give it the beenz and if it packs up swap it for new or have it repaired under guarantee.
