1 coat or two? Thursday afternoon I skimmed a 15m2 ceiling. Knocked up a full bag for first coat and had enough left for another metre or two

2 coat Steve. Always 2 coat. Except Friday afternoons. And reveals.

5mm Fook that 2mm all day long.
Im supplying on all jobs so it would cost me twice as much!!!
I've said 3-5mm was the spec years ago like I said I dnt measure my thickness of skimming but I can guarantee I put it on thicker than 2mm which is bolloxs

How do people put it on 2mm thick with beads and scrim? Even if u coat ur beads and scrim 1st ur still putting it on thicker than 2mm to bring It out to ur beads and scrim plus ur practicly 3 coating If ur coating ur beads and scrim 1st then putting on then laying down? 1 coaters coat scrims and beads up 1st we don't as we are 2 coaters

2mm the f**k**g drywall screws would poke through plus fibatape as for skim beads if those shite mini mesh ones ? Your knackered !! 2mm may work out on paper but not in practice unless your f**k**g nickname is Eggshell :birra:

If the boarding is tidy the screws are 1mm into the boards mate

@bobby the boarding is never tidy especially if done by joiners or builders. Plus if you do your own your relying on the stud work or worse still on a refurb going over old s**t !!?? Then what ???

I don't feel the need to explain buddy
Everyone has there own way(y)
Im not having a go at you Rob im just saying your boarding is only going to be as good / neat as the stud work etc your going over. I do mostly refurbs and extensions and boarding over existing work is a minefield

Idea for the mm debate..
Next week take a school ruler or mark a thin piece of lath at 2,3,4 and 5 mm ..stuff it in the first coat when wet and after 2rd coat is on and had second flattening..log it and report back...measurements taken in the the middle of the wall on boards and domestic overskim.
Thanks Vincent

Why do you take everything I say offensively

Or just wait for the down lighters to be cut out

Was going to say what Keith suggested but thought the ruler would be more fun.

Another idea when it's all dry and set cut a hole out of skim measure and patch up with easyfill.
Lol

25m2 :envidioso:envidiosomust of been a killer all 2 & 1/2 bags of it (y).

Yea not a big area but I had to work round about 10 sockets, 4 pipes, and some tricky angles..so I think we did ok...i doubt many on here do a room in a set...probably over 2.

Not quite sure how thick I put it on,but after years of doing it I automatically take enough of the hawk to get me where I need to go wheather it's a 2 ft stretch or a 5 ft stretch there's just seems to be enough on the trowel

2 sets
about 2 bags a hit.
Thats plenty on my own , no labourer and domestic
usually bag and half to lay on and half bag to close in but stick the 2 coats on with one hit sometimes too.
All depends.

Who remembers using jute scrim and having a mix just to butter up joints and filling out scrims before you started even started skimming.:frio:.

I was taught to rule off across the hessian before top coating. Kin donkey work
