Got to me job this morning and the radiator was still on the wall.Customer said can you just take it off, skim it and pop it back as you are working. Was back in the van within 2 minutes on me way home.I try not to walk off jobs,it's that feeling when u driving back that I don't like, the same as leaving a football match and your team been thrashed.Got to say though it felt flipping GREAT to have the day off.

Personally id of drained it down took the rad off then walked off the job.
Let em pay for a plumber to get it back on cnuts.
He had a go himself and left a tray underneath to catch the dropping drips, tightened it back up and left the spanner on the floor for me..joys of the general public..i like the drain down idea though..i do that for the next one.lol

If they don't want to pay to take them off or do it themselves I'll just go up to and around it, you'll never see behind unless you look.
Fair play for just packing up and going though!

I give them the option to either take it off themselves or get a plumber to do it, if they're not fussed ill go in as far behind it as possible. I'm a plasterer i'm not f**k**g about taking rads off the wall.

Gotta look at it that your liability insurance wont cover you if a rad leaks and causes damage so why ever take a risk ....

We do same as jgreen plastering we tell them to get it taken off themselves or we go round and as behind as trowel will get

Not worth risking it as you will get the blame for anything that goes wrong with that radiator further down the line.

Done it in the past, drained them, took them off, put back on and refilled even bled and got pressure back up but now they can fook off as I'm not a plumber

I'm sorry bud, what you mean "unless you look" do you walk past that bit with your eyes closed or something

You can get a trowel in about 2-4 inches behind the rad so you blend it in.

Patching is ok so why isn't this?

You cant see behind a rad unless your directly above or beside it which is mostly never and when painted it may just want a quick rub to take edge off.

We always ask client when quoting what they want doing with rads so I know before I start if it will be off or not.
If they don't want to pay to remove it that's the only option.

95% of people we've done jobs for we've said what are you doing with rad and there have said not arsed just get as far as u can get as Cnt c it anyway..that's them saying it

92.4 and a half % people have said when iv told them it will look a c**t just get them taken off.

fooking messing about jabbing trowel being a radiator.

my words exactly are, "it will look s**t, you will regret not taking it off, it will let the job down"

The problem is sat on your knees f**k**g about behind a radiator, getting s**t all over it, dragging cobwebs out and other bits of s**t the scruffy cnuts have let drop behind, also cleaning rad off after is a pain.

If they ain't taking it off to plaster they aren't taking it off to paint and it looks wank.

Just my opinion like

Never on my knees.
The bottom doesn't get done unless it's high up the wall!

I put laminate protector over the rad and whip off when done.
Jobs a good un.

I'd love it if I could get them all took off but I'm not losing a job just cuz the customer won't. There choice.

to be honest mate, i have never lost a job due to that.

you need to sell it, tell them you aren't doing a half arsed job, your doing it properly or not at all, it is handy to have a regular plumbers number who you can pass his phone number onto and just say it will be about £30/£40 extra.

done it once about 10 years ago, never again.

So you take all rads off yourself Mac?

no i tell them I'm not insured, i asked them if anyones handy in the family that can do it or talk them through it (its not hard) failing that i tell them i can arrange for the plumber to pop up, take it off, plaster it then paint it and plumber back up.

Realistically your looking at £60 minimum to take it off, then re position and top system back up.
If the rads are ancient then chances are the values won't close fully so system will need draining and capping.
Then reposition and new values.
So your then talking over £100 easy!
Most people I don't think want to pay that when they just want a room skimmed for £200/400.

I just loosen the valves, fold the rad down and crack on. No need to drain the system down or top it up after. Takes 5 minutes. And my liability covers leaks but I've never had one.

The customer did take the others off in the hallway and left the brackets on which I advised and was fine with,I could get round those fine ..the one today though cuz it wouldn't stop dripping is why he said what I said earlier.I just can't be arsed when I in these situations and think I am better off at home..on the plus side went to a quote and got a job sorted for January, alls well that ends well.

Thats a good tip pug

I do take them off so long as valves allow, but warn customers that any faulty valves is their responsibility.
