This style of pointing is called Butter Pointing and is always required by English Heritage to match in with old weathered lime joints though this was not the case here the Architect just specified it, the mix is 4 silver sand, 1 sharp, 1 white cement and one part Butter, the Butter helps soften the colour of the morter and promote the growth of moulds and moss on the wall to age it more.

I can't believe it's not butter

Four days, Irish came and helped me for a day on the top bit but you need a steady hand but he was ok after a liquid lunch.

just out of interest mate how much would it have cost to do it in brick compared to wallcrete

Andy, its a good job that is Wallcrete, cos if it was your brickwork its shocking, seems Casper would of been right about the quality of your brick work then.

And Kebab buys your food on the night :RpS_thumbsup:Cheers again honest John :RpS_biggrin:

It wasn't cheap in that sense. The job was in some royal family hangers on garden. I had to try me best not to piss in the kitchen. Fair plat to old luscious tho, he knows how to "discuss" with the hoi poloi :RpS_scared:

Ok everyone ime going to call it a day on this one, we thought we would have a bit of a laugh on it, well Kebabs idea, but its BRICKWORK so i hope no ones offended with the bit of banter, its the enterance to a mansion ive been working on, two walls mirrored the bricks were sourced from Manchester as they had to be solid, no frogs because of the cutting they were very old and probably the worst i have ever worked with as they differed in size which is not good when cutting to a template. The bricks cost 70p each and there was a lot of crap in them which could not be used but as Flinny said a decent brick would cost around £1.50, 70% of the wall are cut bricks the halves have to be cut for the main wall to get a face on both sides and the octagonal piers have 8
