Flynny why don't you phone up the guys who make these products and ask them these questions. As a moderator you should be giving the correct advice.
 
If in doubt follow the manufacturers specifications, then there is less likely to be a comeback. Ignore these clowns.

The frost will cause the crack then the problem gets worse, I dont need to contact the people who make waterproofers i know what i know im also a moderator who moderates the site not just here to give advise and thats the first time ive heard of brickys using waterproofer.

Ok and the frost won't cause a crack on a render without waterproofer in the top coat? and the problem won't get worse?

Depending on the type of construction waterproofer maybe used in the mortar.

FEBPROOF PLUS contains a highly hydrophobic material which is dispersed throughout the mix and thus reduces moisture penetration.

FEBPROOF PLUS also entrains air and this reduces capillary and water channel development, thus ensuring greatly increased water tightness and resistance to frost. In addition, due to its plasticising action, reductions in water content of up to 20% are attained. FEBPROOF PLUS slightly re***ds the mix, e.g. A 3:1 sand/cement mix will be r******d by about an hour.

LOL where does it say put in the top coat and scratch coat? Dont act like a smart arse copying and pasting what it says on the back of a product then ask a completely basic question about plastering. lol
 
Well they wouldn't say put it in the top coat because that really depends on what rendering is being undertaken and what time of year. But if you think about it where does a frost occur?
 
What would be the point of having protection against frost if you didn't put waterproofer in the top coat?
