i keep reading you geezers use wba but ive never seen it in wickes im always looking for it , i live in se london ,is it a northern thing or am i missing something.

It looks like this mate & it's not always by the plaster have a look by the coving or where they keep beads & scrim :RpS_thumbup:

wba

Do u have to leave it 24 hours to dry like plasprime or can you give it an hour like PVA before u skim on it ??

It's about 4hrs depending on the background. TBH I've never skimmed the stuff same day. Always left it overnight anyway. Can see its advantages over Bond it etc.

Bit off a tit on waiting a couple of hours before skimming on it specially when u wanna re-skim a decent size room in a day and u aint got time to prep the day b4

I've skimmed on it after 2hrs & it was rock solid.
Depends what you put it on & the temp in room etc.
I've been back to some the next day after I put over silk emulsion in an empty house with no heating & it was still wet in the corners!
IF I skim it same day I get it on as early & as quick as poss(don't take long) then get a blow heater in the room & shut the door while doing other things like getting water buckets ready, tools out van, quick trip to cafe :RpS_biggrin:

You don't just sit still waiting 2-4hrs for it to dry :RpS_laugh:
But it does make more sense to get it on before you do go round to skim it if it's a smaller job.
Or just use pva on same day jobs :RpS_wink:

Might give it a bash on an artex ceiling av got this week. c what its like. probably hang like F**K and ill be burning the midnight oil waiting on a tinchy ceiling..

Sorry should of said roasting the apprentice.. to be fair since i started with the corrective punishment scheme ( backed by the government) he now always cleans his beads and doesnt forget to brush in his angles......:RpS_thumbsup:
............

i water mine down alot, i had a 34m2 lid out of a tub yesterday and like Nicearse, i find i can normally get on it after a few hours. If you have never used it before you may find your 1st coat goes a little pimpley, just crack on and its all good.

About that yes, i was told to do that with weak pva, seems to work.

Interesting. I've never used this stuff before and have a 25m vinyl silked kitchen ceiling to reskim early next week. I was going to try this stuff but didn't really want to spend 30 quid on a bonding agent when I've mostly just used cheapo PVA with no problems. If one tub will do me then I think i'll give it a go.

I wouldn't meself.
Can't see the point of throwing extra money into a pva mix,
might aswell just use pva.
Or charge the customer for how ever many tubs you need.
Or buy a big tub of a brand name works out cheaper.

Let us no how get on mate, I'm the same pva all day. Has there been any problems on some artex finishes with wba?

WBA has to be better than PVA over silk paint. PVA takes ages to go tacky over that stuff. I only use PVA over Artex now if I have nothing else on the van. WBA, Artex Sealer, PVA is my preference.

Will be doing it tomorrow. I've been down and got some WBA, you get fu'ck all for your money don't you. Gonna water it down with some pva....what's the worst that can happen :)

Went to the builders merchant after and saw FEB blue grit at £9 for 5 litres, much better value but you have to leave it for 24 hours it said. No good for me on this occasion but I will be buying that in the future i think.

Yeah you don't get much in the small tub :RpS_biggrin:
WBA is basically knauf betokontakt if you can get that, it's a bigger tub & works out cheaper than WBA.
£9 for 5 litres of FEB that's a good price but like you say gotta leave it 24hrs.

Personally i wouldn't thin it out. Is it worth it goin wrong to save a few quid. Buy another tub and the leftovers can go on the next job. Can't seem to get hold of Betokontakt anymore. Good stuff that and not pissin about with tiny tubs!

Yeah I noticed that it was made by Knauf. The thinning out is more of an experiment to be honest....not just me being a tight arse lol.

Lol! Fair enough. I'm sure it'll be fine I'm just a bit OCD with s**t like that haha! Let us know anyway.

Nisus do you know where you can get Betokontakt from? Local builders merchants used to sell it before the recession finished them off.
