seems like a lot of messing about and waiting going on, PVA ever time for me! I just water the PVA down a little if its Artex a lot more if its not and brush it on, go get all ya tools out of the van, fill the bucket up then mix up

I know what your sayin if it's a small job but anything bigger get it all coated and it all goes off nice and even and finishes so much better. Less prone to hairline cracks, don't get the finish going off uneven with artex patterns. If you've never tried it give it a go!

Let the punter put it on!
Or, bang it on and have half a day, bit of fishing, go the pub, or a walk up the fells my favourite:RpS_thumbup:

Feck me Kebab 50-50 your asking for trouble LOL its latex you do not add pva to the wba plasprime is very good also.

Funny thing is I used to say that till i tried it :RpS_wink:
It's defo quicker with pva, but sometimes it makes sense to use bonding agent on a job.
Like if I'm on a job & the last hour I'll roll out a room or 2.
Then next day no fecking about just mix up & crack on. No rolling twice with pva.
Even if you pva it day before you still gotta roll it again on the day, whereas with bonding agent just mix up soon as you walk in :RpS_thumbup:

LOL I watered it down much more than that. Roughly equal measure of WBA, PVA and water. Maybe even more water than that. I got over 35m out of a tub and still have some left.

And still have a full tub "That's magic" as my hero Paul daniels might say.

I was a bit worried about the pva in it re-emulsifying the whole lot but i tested a patch with some water before i skimmed it and the water just sat on the surface.

The finish went on real nice and didn't slide around like it can sometimes with pva and the wba only took a couple of hours to harden.

The biggest problem was all the bloody kitchen units they kindly fixed in place for me and the 600 centres. Hollows all over.

Time will tell if it stops on or not i suppose. Should be fine though I think.

DannyMac your better buying a large tub you always going to use it .

Do you mean Betokontakt?

I thought Wickes only did 3kg tubs.

Before I've always just used pva and sbr really coz its cheap. I can get Bluegrit for £18 for 10l, think i'll dilute that next and see if it stays on.

The bonding agent definitely inspires confidence.

put it on and have half a day, think the punter wouldnt have me if i charged a days wage for painting some shite on their wall :RpS_unsure:

danny how many litres is 3kg (why the frig do they use kg's instead of litres grrrrrrrrrr)

its not cheap then!!!
so danny do you think its ok to water down them? not paying that for 2 litres when pva is less than a tenna, my work is private so hanging about for a few hours is a no no 99% of the time anyway

It has it's place I think NPS. Over paint with a sheen it is useful.

You're right though, it is expensive compared to PVA, but can be watered down.

I rollered it on then, did a set and came back to it so no time lost. But if I had PVA'ed it then i would have been waiting 2 or 3 hours anyway for it to tack up.

Feb bluegrit seems the most cost effective at ~£20 for 10 litres and looks like a thicker solution so hopefully should have more scope for watering down. All the bonding agents are probably very similar chemically and just have different dyes and grit size.

(disclaimer) Please dont take my word for it though, try it on a small wall first and see what you think or even just a m2 and try to scrape it off in a few days.

just searching for costs of different bonding agents and ive just found thistle bond it for 80 bar and its 105 with shipping:RpS_scared:

Danny this might sound stupid but do you know the stuff with grit in it do you have to completely let it dry before skimming and if you dont doest the grit come through? ive never used it before

Danny it's got it's uses when it's not reduced to water lol....why's everyone so bothered about the price the customer pays for it

Hey, it hasn't fallen off yet.:RpS_biggrin:

It's about competitive pricing and maximising profit.......or maybe just about being a tight arse.

the price might determine whether we get the job or not though

a bird rung me to price a job last week I told her £115 but if any of the plaster falls off while shes taking the skirting boards off then ill have to get some bonding and charge her for it, she said how much more because ive had a quote for £120 pmsl if shes had a quote for that then why was she ringing round lol (glad she did though lol) id have lost the job if i was using the thistle bonding and the likes

been s**t around here for a few months, cant wait for the sites to get busy then the site lads will fcukoff back onto them :RpS_thumbup:
do you do private or site? you get much work other side of wakey?

I had to ring up today to get a price for some after looking at a job yesterday and its £70 for a 20litre tub, not sure how that compares with other suppliers though marra.

Tracked some Betokontakt down from this place after gettin nowhere with sheffins.

Knauf Drywall Plaster Accessories (53WK) | Nevill Long Interior Building Products : Suspended Ceilings, Partitioning, Drywall Systems, Cubicles, Flooring

They've got branches round the country and are selling it at £45 inc vat. Picked up 2 tubs today. Works out at about 60p per m2 compared to over £1 a m2 for WBA and Bond It.
