I got @Danny to set me up a website and went live a couple of weeks ago. I am booked solid for the next few months and my intention was to get a website up and running to hopefully bring in more work for the winter. On Dannys advice I opened Twitter, Freeindex, Google+ and a few others to get the site better placed with google. Whilst I was quiet I spent a lot of time on the computer following local businesses and people on twitter, liking local pages on facebook, linking with local firms on Linkdin, sharing googlepages and so on and so on.

It seems to be working , I know people that have sites and it does not bring them anything, @JohnDoe mentioned this problem last week. dont give up on it there are literally dozens of things you can do to get your self noticed, just keep clicking away.

Got my first job off the site which I did on saturday morning, A little ripdown, reboard and skim. More than paid for half the website cost

To be fair though beddy the G** male escort for the over 50s is a strong trade to be in :RpS_thumbup:

You can buy them yourself but might be best off getting Danny to do it. Www.Gainsboroughplasterers.co.UK for example is free.
So is www.doncasterplastering.co.UK. if you pick a name that people are likely to use when searching it helps

Yeah like that but we are moving when we've sold the house so not a100% on the area yet I.e Doncaster / Retford / Worksop /Lincoln so don't want to tie myself to one area couldn't I use my business name ?

Your Business name is fine. If you move what you can do is add text to your site with that area in. You can also buy domain names and link them to your site. For example if you chose www.bigfellaplastering.co.uk and you move to Lincoln you could buy www.lincolnplastering.co.uk (if its free) and have it linked to your site.

If you are likely to move around the use your name ie DVC Plastering or whatever...

buying local domains is a good way but its not the be all and end all... but you buying them stops others from buying them :-)

The site design is only the start :-) You need to be proactive and it will all fall into place like it has oli :-)

:-)

So I could have a few web address and they'd all link back to my main site thebigfellaplastering.co.uk?

You can bud, and some domain names are only a few quid. have a look yourself. just put domain names into google (some companies will screw you down when you need to renew or nag you with offers so it is probably best to ask Danny to buy them) ive been looking on sites out of interest, Danny has linked a couple to my site

like Danny said the domain name is just the start. My Dad used to have a Hotel in Torquay and he used to spend hours on the computer going onto every local business site in the county and dropping links to his site, making comments , sharing posts etc the list is endless. As daft as it sounds I used to just target builders, architects , surveyors etc, now I will target Yacht clubs, lawn green bowling clubs, mps, councillors ,These are people with money that own properties and are connected , chuck enough seeds in the ground something will grow. I personally like to have a constant flow of work, it helps you get better prices when you dont have to win every job. I would rather view 3 jobs and only get one of them but get it for a good price.

Twitter is a way to interact with companies...

I complain a lot through twitter :-) Great way to get heard :D

How does twitter work then mare? only thing i've not done yet.....

open a twitter account , heres mine
https://twitter.com/RivieraPlaster

and attract lots of followers in your area

then whenever you tweet something they will see your company name

retweeting other peoples stuff is a good way

you can link your face book page (if you have one) to your twitter so that whenever you post it goes on both

I posted half an hour ago on my FB https://www.facebook.com/Rivieraplastering?ref=tn_tnmn and it went straight on my twitter
