Building control are saying the door with the strips removed is now comprimised it weaker and will not stop a fire now strips removed ????????????????????
So hes got to replace or glue and pin hardwood fillament along where intumisent was on all doors and remove perco's and put door closures instead too.
i know it sounds a bit crazy but thats what he told me.
i havent seen the doors or care too,but im wanna know the crack for future doors.

Cheapest option i think is to put smoke alarms in every room then it doesnt matter if strips are on.
From what i gather B/C arent happy cus the strips wont let smoke out of room to kick in smoke alarms that are on landings etc.
Imagine the time involved taking doors off getting them strips out glueing and pinning hard wood strips.fcuk that.
I aint doing it for the tw@t anyhow id rather sit on here alday moaning about how s h i t work is at the minute.

so what youre saying is...
theyre letting him get away with neglecting to install hard wired smoke alarms in every habitable room (which i thought was a requirement) provided he installs hardwood in the strip groove and ensures all stop beads are 'fire stops' i.e. 25mm2 pse?
so why doesnt he just install hard wired smoke alarms and leave the f'ckin doors alone?

every room now mate.. all wired together...
been thinking..
so, bo is saying, 1) no smoke alarm in room so no smoke brushes allowed (stupid in itself) and 2) because theres no smoke brushes its not a fire door... bollox

fit intumescent strip to the frame or door wherever the bloody slot is without smoke brushes...
combined smoke brush/intumescent strip is relatively new, it does away with the need for fire stop bead i)smoke and ii) longer burn time...

those strips expand when they get hot, without the smoke brush they'll let smoke through until the back of the door is hot enough to cook timber..

thats all they used to fit, straight strip and fire stop beads...

now you can fit smokebrush intumescent strips and standard stops...

cheap to buy, easy to fit should shut the bco up too...

get a quote off a spark to install a hardwired smoke alarm system to the whole house, knock 50 quid off and theres your quote.. :RpS_wink:

serves the c*** right
I had a guy ring just before christmas chris asks me...i got a student house 5 bedrooms i need 9 firedoors and frames hinges handles etc fitting, also needs staiwell plasterboarding with firecheck to create a corridor and under stairs on both cases firboarded+ 5 linked smoke alarms and emernecy lighting on all escape corridors.
Now this house is victorian so ripping old frames out and putting new fireframe and door in and replastering up aint a 5 minute jobs ur talking a day a door+mats to do a GOOD job (no painting). so i gave him a price of £3250 CHEAP!!!
He rings me up yesterday saying he got someone else in to do it for £2500 and building control wont pass the doors or the plasterboarded corridor(our polish cousins).
he cant get them to sort it out and wants to know how much to put it right .I laughed and put phone down.

All i know is what the guy told me,i dont kow the current laws.But......
Last job i did similar in summer was on student house and smokes only needed in comunal areas kitchen and landings only, all these doors needed door closures but not fire doors or intumiscent strips(i used the developer solid wood 6 panel).
It had to be done for him to get a HMO certuificate and the law is diferent for these ?
building control didnt check them it was enviromntal health or a department within them and they gave him ( hmo certificate).
This guy did this other work for did tell me on one of his other housesd a 3 story houses the law was different to get the HMO certifiacate.I dont know the laws or ins and outs.

As the installer, you will be expected to know the current regs won't you skimmin? - you can bet that F*****g landlord is gonna say that's what ya told him:RpS_crying: Sounds a right tosser, I'd steer clear of him if you can.

Mate theres different regs for differnt situations its a night mare nowdays, some houses come under HMO, some dont, some HMO ( house of multiple occupents) have differnt regs to others.
UNless HMO officer come out and explain whats what its guess work.
And not many landlord will do that incase they start asking for this and that extra work.
But ur right the guy was a tosser that wanted everyting for nothing.I had even got my tape measure out when i went to quote and he was telling me he wants
" best price mate"
