Hi

I have been using an 14" Marshalltown for 3 years now with no probs to be honest. Thinking about buying a new one as mine has nicks out of it and also might be better suited to using a slightly smaller one.

A friend of mine uses a Tysack 12" and reckons smaller trowels are easier to use and more workable?

Will a 12" take longer for me to spread a ceilng/wall than a 14"?

What are you ideas?

search the forum mate , this has been asked a hundred times. I have gone all ways wit trowels but a 13" seems to work. I often use a 16" for the first trowel because it is quicker and flatter.

AS SIMPLY SAYS 13 SEEMS TO BE THE BEST BUT IHAVE MAYBE 5 DIFFERENT SIZES EACH HAVE THERE OWN JOB, BUT FOR ME GO FOR A 13 TYZACK READY TO GO

What is the best sized trowel? well as far as im concerned there isnt one its personal preference, a big trowel wont make you any faster just as a small trowel dos`nt make you any slower, The blokes i served my time with, used 11" trowels and were as quick as anyone ive worked with in the last 20 years. My opinion though.

i used a 14 from the day i started but last year changed to a 13 and found it easier, tried 16's 18's and 20's and all i find them anygood for is laying on 1st coat but not any faster really well for me anyway.

I got all sizes but main trowels are 13" i find it the best size.
20" ok for flattenin off big areas but only use it now & again to be honest.
I use the 20" more with SLC just before running the spiked roller over it.

shoved it up youre missus arse so hard it bent over the wrong way ...........apparently shes used to a small tool ???

i bought a 11inch permashaped trowel the other day..... didnt know they made them so i had to have it. lol

I bought a 12" chicken terriyaki the other day that was nice especially with jalepenos you cant have the 6" you gotta have a foot long.

i always buy the chicken sizzler from dominos with jalepnos....

I find small trowels for renovating and listed properties where the serfice is up and down 11 /13 inch and bigger trowels 18/20 inch for new work and rendering and the bigger the better if your sponging your work up with a sponge float as long as the wall is flattish to start with

That increase in speed wont be because of the increase in trowel size that's for sure.

Hello Madmonk
Are they good those 5 star trowels, being reading good things about them but not known anyone using one until yourself

awsome mate the only yank trowel marshys are produced in china an finished off in america the standard of marshy have really droppedcos of this

ive got the 14inch gold permashape trowel. its lovely to lay on with and i use it to first trowel so its nice and flat, but its taking forever to break in nicely, so i use my refina to finish it off, now theres a nice trowel!

Which one would you recommend as need a back up trowel so may try one of these, do all of them have the leather handle grips
