What to do with belongings whilst plastering?

Hello

There is probably a really simple solution to this which you guys will know straight away - but me and my girlfriend are sat here scratching our heads, so thought I'd ask the experts!

We are having 3 bedrooms, and the hall, stairs, and landing, skimmed. I am going to strip the wallpaper over the next couple of weekends, ready for the plasterer to come and do the work - he said it will take about a week.

When he came to quote he said that the rooms need to be empty - and this is where we're a bit stuck. Where do we put everything? We have two king size beds, one in each of the large rooms - the box room has no bed in it though. We have wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressing table, bedside cabinets etc.

Obviously, if we were just having one room skimmed then we could put everything in another room - but all three need to be empty. Do you think he will be doing one room per day, and so we can move the furniture from one room to the other at the end of each day? Or will he be doing a bit of work in each room every day, in which case they all need to be empty for the whole week?

Also, my girlfriend is pregnant so I'd need the plasterer to help me move the furniture from room to room at the end of each day, if that is an option.

Any help appreciated.

Prep the biggest room first then put all your stuff in it.Prep everything else then.As he finishes the other rooms use them for storage.
 
Youre the boss ! Work out a plan that works for you and get him to price working around you accordingly ? Or if room hire a shipping container and put everything in it .

f**k me why didn't you bring this up with your plasterer at the time when you agreed to his price im sure he would of been able to come to an arrangement with ya

It would bother me if ‘moving furniture’ was actually tidying the room up. Had that before and I went home

Trouble with that as soon as you scratch or chip one of there cabinets etc your moving its coming out of your money on the job never fully trust a customer ,always get them to sign something so your not liable were not furniture removal specialists
 
Pregnancy is not the same as being an invalid, ladies can do a lot right up to quite near the birth.
Ask the inlaws or someone else to help with the heavy stuff not the spread. (Jess is a Saint, by the end of the day most are not.)
Turn the beds onto their side, pull everything into the middle and put a sheet over it. Talk to them early, and Check and ok with the spread that they can reach that bit of the ceiling ok.

Spreads doing domestics shouldn't expect empty rooms, it goes with the business.
 
so you say your girlfreind is pregnant and you would need the plasterer to help you move the furniture,
get in touch with a neighbour/mate, tell him you need him to help move the furniture,
 
Pisses me off when people say they cant clean out rooms. What are you going to do when carpets are fitted a carpet fitter will expect all rooms to be clear.
Take it outside and burn it, then buy new after its plastered and painted!

Yeah can’t argue with that actually. I had to shift a fridge slightly to reach when skimming a ceiling. The Lino tore a smidge and I didn’t notice

they called. I went round with double sided sticky tape and non washable felt tips in a few shades of grey

she couldn’t tell where the tear was (it was really small to begin with) Ended up knocking a few quid off too. Completely understood that at the end of the day I’d damaged the floor but thought it was a bit harsh since they were moving house and the Lino was really old and stained!

Hey ho, I’d rather not have someone slate me or say I don’t care in their homes

Put everything in the middle with a sheet over it? Youre off your tits.

The plasterer has said the rooms need tk be empty. Empty them all with some help from friends and get it all downstairs. Go and stay with parents for a week.

At very worst ring him and say one bedroom will be completely full of stuff and whenever he's completely finished one of the other rooms you'll move it all in there.

Exactly someone says I want these 3 rooms done and painted before the baby comes, and he'll clear the rooms all you can do is give them the price and assume he's good to his word.

Just clear the rooms, it's a couple of hours work to take the beds down and take them downstairs for a few days

Can still be done at the same time but do a room at a time with punter clearing evening before...no domestic spread is knocking out more than a room a day anyway taking into account cleaning, loading out & prep...

Likewise why turn up mobhanded to a poxy domestic job for a few rooms not worth the hassle..

But you can prep the second and third rooms while waiting for sets in first to dry.
Tbf if it was my job I'd be happy to turn up with 2 rooms completely clear and one packed. Customer moves it all when first room is done

I thought asking questions is what forums were for? I was sat on my sofa at 7pm and didn't want to bother the poor bloke who is probably just trying to chill out after a hard days work.

Thanks to the helpful responses. Sounds like getting one room done then move everything into there is the most likely scenario.
