We used to tack them taped together once when prices were tight, sometimes just put in strips to make it look double tacked, there was a knack to banging in the clouts, plasterers had to check the clouts prior to skimming. Then the jute scrim,

Always heard the 2 chaps I worked with reminisce about "100 weight" bags etc etc

I Use to carry 2 at a time but was called a t**t a couple of times and told to look after my back :-/

P warrilow is right, 50kg then 40 before 25kg. All square edge boards too.
In fact why did the tapered edge boards take over? Was it so they can just use them for skim and tape without producing / ordering separate boards?
Wish I could still use them tbh

Grim!
I was an apprentice and labouring and even 25 odd years later can still remember carrying them.
2 jobs in particular , one was up 8 flights and the other was in the IOM , lifting off the truck and uphill about a ten minute walk :(
No drills back then , also remember mixing for 6 plasterers with a bumper and doing tons of browning in an old bath.

I remember my first time I unloaded a delivery, a flat bed wagon, put a bag of browning on my shoulder, I fell to the floor with the bag on top of me with just my skinny legs and arms sticking out ( that's changed too!) and my boss and his brother just laughing at me! Another time double taped fireline boards passing them up through the joist on a massive house, happy days.
