@ cassie

seriously I was trained at british gypsum at leicster east leek I think?.. it was a 2 day course paid for by the building firm used to work for it was embarrassing...

it was basically a sales pitch to try and get you to buy the bazookas etc...

it was that bad that we complained there was hardly any areas to go at and an utter farce if it had of been out of my own pocket I would of been fuming!!!

however it is what it is fine for commercial long run corridors etc with little daylight/ not under scrutiny but never never good enough for a home and I don't care who does it!!!

For what its worth I think 70% of all plastering works is carried off to poor standard I also think it probabley always has been as im forever going over old school float and set from 1900s 1920s 1950s 1970s 80s etc etc that's all over.

Same with rendering certainly more bad out there than good!!

Yeah I agree if its done by a good team with all the gear looks well ive only ever done with trowel n pole sander got it done well but I could of skimmed it by time I finnished only cos taping is for homosexual decorators!:RpS_scared::RpS_lol:

You mean the machine taping Zombie ? if so, it was a full 5 days when I did mine, so thats been reduced a lot.. not sure why, I did mine 20 odd years ago... the hand taping was a full week aswell if I remember, i used to go to carlisle and do a course every 5 months or so, when work was slack, did all the courses over the years, i think pride in work has a lot to do with it, whether thats skimming or taping etc.. and when people are rushing around like T***s because the money is crap, can only lead to resentment and not being bothered about the standard, I agree with you on the site work %.. I really believe a lot of people dont actually realise they are rough....

yeah the taping machines for apply the paper tape down the joints and internals etc...

now you mention I think it it may have been a 5 day course with an early knock on the Friday???

in there defence the instructor was as embarresed about the fiasco as we where angry and he was telling us that they were going to be having a new purpose built area built the following yr bla bla etc...

whether they ever did or not I don't know...im sure it was around 450 notes at the time but like I say the building firm paid for us thankfully...

anyway firm bought us a couple of machines...jesus spent more time having to clean them and maintain and bits and bobs playing up and in the end ditched them for hand applying!!!

sure they were a couple of grand or summet each at the time...they spent more time in a wheely bin soaking in water than they did being used terrible things!!!!

Thats a shame zombie, sounds like you didnt get the right training, mine was really good, suppose things were different for you.. the speed tape was called AMES taping originally, named after the two Ames brothers who invented it..lol.. bit of trivia for ya there mate... still say if its done properly, its a decent finish.. all down to the person and training they had, its a shame for you, and not right to be honest mate.... skimming is better tho.. so no biggy..lol

Hasn't skimming always been more expensive than tape jointing plus tape jointing is cleaner dries faster etc
rates have definitely gone up plastering wise not sure about tape jointing

House bashers get anywhere from £2 a metre supply & fix for taping. They normally give you between 1 and 2 days to tape a house which isn't long enough to do it properly. They can keep it as far as I'm concerned.
