I currently drive a Hyundai Getz & with the seats down I can get my 2 gorilla tubs in, my small 3 tread stepladders, my drill & mixing attachment, my trowel & hawk, & I put all my small tools, bits & bobs & overalls in the gorilla tubs & I always carry old curtains & a few new dustsheets for covering customers soft furnishings etc..
I can get 3 bags of multi-finish in the passenger seat & bags of bonding coat in the rear footwells.
So I have managed ok for the last 2 years as some of my customers have fetched the plasterboards for me.
But I'm struggling recently so I really could do with a van now, I've got a £2000 budget so any suggestions.
Thanks.

Its a must to get a van as soon as as possible :-) looks a lot better than using a car :-)

I use have an escort van :-) boards on the roof loads of floor space etc....

But you cant go wrong with a transit :-)

Danny

Use your £2000 as a deposit and get a new Transit . No MOTs or reliability issues to worry about, and it's all tax deductable too.

What Tony said ^ new vans are worth the money, under warrenty etc/ too. I drove around in an escort van for about 5 years and found it a pain in the arse, apart from being able to run faster than it, you can never fit all your gear in the back, and if you ever take rubbish from jobs you need to empty all ya tools just to load up the rubbish, which probably wont fit in anyway.

Transit, Vivaro, or something of similar size is what you need, and also sign written up looks the part for sure!

Get a brand new transit and sign write it ......dunk the monk plastering services I did a course ******* check me out

Transit. Everytime!! Just get it over and done with, you won't regret it. I started out like yourself, driving Talbot sunbeam which cost £175 (which i borrowed lol) I've been through most vans. Astravan, Escort van, 2 sooty vans (suzuki supercarry) A VW Transporter and now onto my present creme de la creme.......A new 140 ltd Transit :RpS_drool: I love it so much i have nightmares aboot gypos stealing it!! lol

If your just doing domestic a small van wil be fine . I would not chuck a lot of money at it not 2k I would sooner have that in my pocket. Reputations are built on your skill as a spread not how good your van looks. Word of mouth is everything in business .

Henry, you make some good points there. However, a nice new van speaks volumes about your attitude towards business. Arrive in a tatty old banger...or arrive in a shiny new van? It's a no brainer. I've lost count of the amount of customers who've remarked on my van. Incidentally, my 1978 Talbot Sunbeam used to get parked around the corner from my jobs. In these tough times, first impressions are paramount!!

I agree when you add up the savings on van tax remarkably high fuel economy and the potential to acquire vital new contracts .........one should thing long term the van is the most important job one should think of what one one could lose if ones van broke down 150-200 pounds per day .............buy new buy ford:RpS_thumbup:

licence

hope you have a licence for carrying that rubbiish in your van like the rest of us.??????
:RpS_blushing:

We have a peugeot expert with a roof rack which is ideal but it's getting on a bit, we are thinking of ugrading soon but cash seems to be the prob.

what do you think will be cheaper guys getting my transit re-sprayed orrrrrrr getting it wrapped, im bored with white and would buy a new van but i wana new car aswell and cnt have both now can i (miserable cow :RpS_sneaky:)

A full wrap will cost you the best part of a grand. Ask Oasis, oh wait a minute, you can't because he's banned. Ask Beadey eye, oh wait a minute, you can't because he's banned too.

Buy a new van and a new car or you're G**

Got a new van then Spunky or is there something you'd like to share with the group?

haha spunks are you trying to tell us all something theres alot of G** being thrown about at the moment

No I'm not G** fingering you're own bum doesn't count .......bit more like self harming :RpS_unsure:

Do you clip your nails before doing that? I'd be worried about digging the lining of my poo hole.
