we should all realise there are 2 types of plasterer, Site boys and domestic boys. 2 tottally different breeds as in site boys would usually get through twice as much in a day talk alot less, eat less and drink less brews. No offence domestic boys but thats life.

so come to prices some lads do and can make money at site rates and others would be dead by dinner time its as simple as that.

i respect anyone who can make money plastering - because on site they are grafting more than any other trade I have ever seen, no lies, you dont see any other trade pulling their balls out like plasterers do. and domestic lads are doing well to get enough work in all year round to stay busy as well as looking round peoples houses mostly of an evening time.

so true mate, site plasterers are worked like mugs, work the hardest for the shitest money. i did a lot of site work serving my time in th e 80's,all roughing on work, hard graft, mixing with a rake in a bath, skim with a stick and posser,******* hated it,i had mucles in my piss:RpS_wink:

talking to my mate last year who dus site work,he was getting £1.50m2 for skimming, frcking disgusting if you ask me mate, may as well stay in bed and sign on:RpS_thumbup:

Its the knocking up I cant stand, if I had a labourer I could lay loads on but when knocking up for yourself you literally can use a whole bucket off a spot in about 30seconds!

Why dont you get a labourer ? worth there weight in Grano dust :RpS_thumbup: a good one

very true me and the old man do 7 bag hits just to earn a little bit, and theres other trades walking to the cafe stinking of deodrant i look down at my self with a trowel in one hand and a sandwich in the other thinking something aint right here!!!!!!!!

Be ideal, if I could find one I knew I could rely on and who knew what he was doing! (how to knock up properly and stick beads on), but as I would have to try all sorts of T***s to find a good one Id rather not risk it! end up payout out 50quid for some knob!

Client showed me their builders quote and price breakdown per metre, supply and fit, excluding VAT.They wondered if i would be able to beat his plastering prices :- 12.5mm plasterboard and skim = £20.70 ,skim coat = £9.20,2 coat sand cement render to blockwork and decoration = £46.00,50mm screed = £28.69. This particular quote wasn't the cheapest and was by no means the dearest they received.

Lets face it,what other trade do you see on site at silly o clock in the morning jumping over the fence with their tools just to get that first hit on? You dont see plumbers, chippies etc doing that! The games F*cked! Even good spreads struggle to make a living thesedays.

dunno bout 'eat less' :RpS_blink: if ive got a house of board work to smash out ive gotta eat like a bloody weightlifter... i am a bit of a racing snake though... them 'nutrition' shakes are good, 500 calories in 20 seconds flat... used up in prolly 45 minutes though :RpS_bored:

The firm i work for its £4.50 float and set which me and the old man have to float till 11 using 24 to 30 bags hardwall and set a day to earn a crust is anyone else getting better prices in south east for a firm who pays regular each week?

thats what we get aswell, its taking the piss if you ask me

where in the south east u from

i had to do that a few weeks ago spready jumping over fence at 7 in the morning just so i could set up and get started by 8 otherwise i wouldnt have got enough on to cover me goin there in the first place, i tend to stay away from site (not that ive done loads) i only do a bit for a company when thier in the s**t domestic is more my thing, so site work annoys me, bloody up at 5 on site a 7 sod that every day of me life

Just had to take on another stupidly low price job, either that or sitting at home which just don't pay the bills!

What sort of meterage is everyone doing a day on site? What sort of finish is expected? 2 coating or one fat coat just covering the joins before hand?

Any info would be great, other seemed to be leaving what I would call ropy work but maybe that's what needs doing to make a days crust

if its cheap and on board ill one shot it... just do smaller sets but more of em, sort of roll one set into another and just stay on the trowel....
still try not to use a sponge, just get it on, get it down and get on it again straight away.... leave it for a final and get some more on somewhere else.... keep it like that... scrape the floor end of the day...
if its good money ill prolly 2 coat fresh mix, move it nice and slow and keep it well tidy....

just had a phone call the other day from a mate who needed a hand on a roughing on job,the QS(t##ts) told him £4.00m2,rough and skim, not even big rooms, when i explained how much he would be earning, travelling 100 miles a day,how much graft would be involved,he said he would give it a miss:RpS_thumbup:
,cheap labour, and its only the plasterers who seem to get it

ps,i hate QS with a fracking vengence, fracking hate em,cock head self importent knobjockeys:RpS_thumbup:

not as wrong as having to kill yourself as a skilled tradesman to make money whilst poli'tit'ians trouser big wedges off big companies to f'ck the country over for profit

well the way i see it when im on site, is if they pay me properly ill work properly if they dnt then i wnt. **** em who are they telling me what im worth and that the wear and tear on my body is only worth tuppence hapney whilst they all drive around in mercs and the sort with houses all over the place and kids getting what ever they want when ever they want. pricks hate firms like that even blokes i know and used to get on with are getting like this now cos they know they can. sorry rant over

About 50/60m2 mate. The houses are s**t these days, not a decent wall in them so getting your m2s is hard. The one Im doing now is a bitch, funny shaped walls everywhere, curved ceilings, kitchens these days have 25+ sockets in,you just cant win! I 2 coat but it dont get much trowel anymore, you get what you pay for, right?
