If you can't make enough out of plastering without trying every type of getting away with it approach why not change careers, leave it to those who can make a living from it, how can any East European compete with you one coat skimmers...

Lol john it's not all about you and you are desperately out of touch with how hard it is to the average working class lad, you come across as toffee nosed we can all take that on the chin but I think ye is taking the piss as wee bit

lol john I couldn't see you making £500 a week north of London on site work, £2.00 a square ,you keep 2 coating and pride yourself on your grand a week take home pay, your on here copying and pasting all the time and I don't believe you for one second ,but that's my choice but you shoving your earnings down peoples throats is wrong, get real and stop believing everyone's in the big smoke

You are right,I wouldn't make £500 on site work at £2 a metre, I know lots of guys in London getting £180 a day ish ,my £1000 is less tax and other expenses ie diesel, van costs etc. I don't ram it down anyone's throat, I don't like you guys working for nothing, I would prefer if everyone made a decent living but it's not that way, it's not my fault, I have been in the game years, I care very little if you believe me or not, c and p upsets you, you are like a child throwing toys out of the pram.ps I was rained off today so that should please you..

Err no john every odd post you're going on about the money you earn, a few lads on here could probably embarrass you a bit with what they earn but they choose not too because they don't want to come across as arrogant

John you are always on here , your c and p doesn't bother me one bit because I know its exactly that c and pasted and not really useful in the real world of bent walls, multiple substrates on one wall and the list go's on , you bragging of your earnings piss's me off, but there is nothing I can do about it,£2 quid a square is all you get locally and I don't like it, but if I don't take it someone else will and my family go hungry , I personally would like it trebled but that wont happen for a long time yet, this is my 3rd recession and there's more chancers then ever undercutting each other, 30yrs in trade means fook all .

the proof is in the pudding,, its all about how it looks when painted,, i still 2 coat,, but whether you 1 coat or 2 coat, some c**t can still make it look rough by ******* the painting up of changing the lights
right there mate some painter with his cheap sh....y roller n brush

I am happy if others make fortunes, I am out of the competing world, I do day works nearly all the time now, sick of jobs not been ready and costing me so much time, I have no interest in metres due to my bones, I was the opposite in my thirties and wouldn't touch day work.the money I earn is not big for subcontracting in London, its average at best but good luck to the big earners, I wish it was like this all over england

As I said earlier what I earn is only average in London as everything costs more here.i don't like people posting about working cheap as builders love to see this.

I haven't trained anyone in years ,had four apprentices in my time, I am not easy to work with ,generally 7.30 to 5 ish ,we do a big day even on day work, three hits if drying permits',two this time of the year,I am 48 next month, my main aim is to buy and renovate but London prices have moved £80k since last may so its tough to find a place, that's my preference to leave plastering for 4 months a year

We are all donkeys basically , I was raised on a farm ,worked since I could walk, all weekends, holidays ,etc I want to leave my boy something other than bad bones, I wish every tradesman was making good money for their efforts

last month I went to look at a job as a subby 420 to skim a 2 bed semi ,told him his tape measure was short ,inside house was already loaded up with bags of finish, 35 bags so I quickly worked out he was on rob ,35 bags is 350 metres in my eyes :RpS_sneaky:

Its hard to say I had 3 months off in 2009 as work was at bad rates.one house the wanted rates where after tax I would of had 300 a week ,I sad I'd rather walk my dog and I did for 3 months, luckily a few contacts who had gone the route of using cheap people had problems and asked me back, I had reduced rates for a while but not too low, hoping it stays ok in London but everyone comes here seeking work

my dad used to say '' any daft **** can work for nowt '' and its true, i;d sooner walk dog aswell... leave the muppets to work for peanuts..

Some of us have no choice but to work for **** rates
That's the sad part of our world if one won't another will, but there has to be a cut off point, I saw lots of trades going into different sectors away from the building during the bad years in London, bus driving security ,deliveries etc
