I had my van wrote off some months ago, having to use my car (ford focus) would it look unprofessional putting a sign on your car as I have lost my main source of advertising. any advice would be a great help.:RpS_confused:

Hi, CTPlastering, As I said to dannyMac Ishould have said my main source of free advertising. Im just very consious of using a car and what people might think.

Just paint the back and side windows the same colour as the car and hey presto you have a ford focus van . Your welcome.:-)

Some spreads turn up with shiny new vans all whistles and bells and their work is cack. but unfortunatly a lot of potential customers are won over by things like that. I even landed a job last year because a lady liked the fact that my van was green and not white

Don't have your car painted with signs to look like a works van.
I know a few people who have done it with a normal family estate car, still with plain glass in the rear and back windows. they think it looks great but it looks rough as hell. one even has a baby seat in the car.
if you must use a car instead of a van for work, leave it as a car instead of trying to make it look like a van.

Blimey do you know me mr mc:RpS_laugh:

I doubt if a cowboy would invest money in a new van and not in training, but people are odd, I measure people by what they can do,,

There was a young lad on here who had a bike & trailer, forget his name now,
But he seemed quite busy, not sure if he had it sign written though :RpS_unsure:

I advertise on the back of the mrs car aswell as my van I do get loads of phone calls from it! Mainly when she parks in front of someone's driveway lol

Why u ask spanks,do I sound like I ain't got a scooby:RpS_blink:

Yeah man a lad from Essex used to call himself Superspread and he had just bought a new one...
if you work in and around the city it's a case of having to have a new van as they won't let any older than 56 plates isn't it?

Na not me I'm south London ,think its older than 02 reg , had to get rid of my other van on a x plate ,had that brand new only done 65000 miles ,I kept it spotless , got a new Vito now, every cloud :RpS_thumbsup:

It happens all the time with rogue traders and cowboy builders, this is why these programs are so popular.
buy a van, write a company name on the side, fill it with tools and away you go.
many have done it and many will continue to do it.

I bet none of them have a van as spotless as yours though.....:RpS_laugh:

If they don't care about getting the qualifications required to do the job they want to do and if they don't care about ripping people off and giving qualified time served tradesmen a bad name, they certainly aren't going to care about the state of their van.

I used a car for several years before i got a van, been self employed for 14 years now and only advertised for the first 3 weeks of self employment. It's not what you drive, its hows you present yourself and the quality of your work.

i will change, i promise, joking aside, some people on sites have made me cry, often when i see people doing roof repairs, i can tell that they are at it, their method just looks wrong. you can tell on here by some of the questions, they start off by ,i cant do this but i have to for a friend, dont want to let them down etc etc, makes me think, you are taking money under false pretences, lots of stuff i cannot do as well but i hire in those that can..

I'm just the labourer renovating a grade 1 & 2 palace and stables & I ride a motorbike, never out of work, but I do need to get hold of some horsehair for some private work. I'm in the fenlands.
