Work not great at the moment

if aimed at me mate I said nothing wrong with using a sponge if you know how to use 1...

likewise on decent boardwork nothing wrong with laying down with same mix if you knock it up wet to start with...

likewise i have no problem with dubbing out beads and joint and then followed by 1 heavy coat...

no need to always apply a fresh 2nd on board or on many other substrates...

likewise we will use a mix of finish/bonding to level up on a lot of reskim works before a fresh 2nd...

you don't have to be a martyr pal just do what ever is required for each given scenario...
Wasn't aimed at any body in particular bud just that a lot of people on here preach about being time served and the write and wrong ways to do things ...where as I am same as you and do what ever is needed to do the best job as possible..

Anybody else here ever go through phases where their work is just not great?
Been skimming a room yesterday and today. And it just ain't going right, can't put my finger on it, but won't be showing this one off put it that way.

I've no doubt it'll turn again, but frustrating whilst I'm in the mire?!!

It's not the tools, or mats, just my eye/hand isn't in the game atm. More I try to correct it, more it goes wrong!
Need that beer tonight put it that way!![emoji481] [emoji481]
What I say m8 people will always look for minor faults.Does not mater if it a perfect job .U can get minour fault whith a new car we are only humans so chill out and f**k the people that make our life's harder than it .I'd like to c people that can b like this graft on a ceiling and c how physical it is

The rooms are 4msq x2.5 high with door and small window. I honestly think you ghirls are winding me up tee fcuk here because haven't seen a plasterer yet do a room this size in one hit. They've always done it in 2

My lads halfway through his 2nd year with me and would just about manage this on his own.

How many plasterboards would u skim in a day bud. I love to go work with you for a week to pick up your system.

The skim in UK is a lot easier handled & finished Clemo, bear that in mind, just done a house over there & took me a couple of gauges to get into the swing but it flattens & finishes better than our sh1t.

I have been using BG multi last week found it easier to finish. Then I used it yesterday and was getting tiger stripes all over. I found when the skim drys out the Irish skim looks nicer.

I'd agree with you but think it would change maybe if you worked with it over a longer period. I found the UK stuff a lot better

I can get it here in Louth anytime I want it. I'll use it on the next job I have to do and see how I get on. I find BG multi destroys your tools.

Your bang on there Clemo, been back a month and my mixing bucket & hack etc are still pink from the UK stuff.

A typical day starting a new build house would break down something like this
Theres myself and the boywonder whose been on site with me about 15 months now (having completed his 2nd year at college).
Typical day on site for 7ish prep enough for one big gauge say the master bedroom or lounge or kitchen diner, gauge up and get the lot on between us then id trowel up while Tommy prepped up the next 2 gauges 2nd gauge id get the next largest bedroom on while tommy put on say the ensuite and maybe the airing cupboard or the family bathroom.
3rd set bang the hall/stairs on which if I troweled that up on my own would leave tommy to prep the next days gauges up leaving us both free to be skimming all day the following day.
Using a method like this north of 150m2+ is achievable without ruining either of us.
Home generally no later than 5.

That's a good system.

I'd be in the hospital after that. Lol

7 until 5 is a good day.
I work on my own and get a minimum of 80m2 on, could be up to 100 on larger areas, generally 6 cups of tea, and work generally 8 to 5.
It's whatever works for the individual, but you won't work in the manner you do now when you are in your fifties.

I would usually just hit the 2 opposites which would be 10ish sq mtrs on both sides then hit the other 2 sides with window\door on next hit. Its what most people I know do. Have yet to see anyone take a whole room like that on in 1 hit so I think you might be telling porkies ;)
Yep its not fun though... I get all 4m2 on now but some times split it :)

I always thought it was impossible to hit big sets but it really is down to timing it all right and just cracking on and getting your second coat on quick :-)

This is on board work too. I'm probably worrying about nothing, its just I've never did a hit this big before or seen anyone do it so thought it was big. Are these gauges the norm over there?
Just do one long set... lol when you are second coating first coat somewhere else and just keep going... you will be knackered though... I am tired just thinking about it

absoloutley bang on mate!!!....like ive said on here many a times plumbers/sparks/joiners turn up later have breaks finish earlier...

never here them flobbing there nobs over who fits a boiler or fuse board etc faster....

plasterers are the biggest cocks in building trade...even painters get same money for easier work these days
bet they do have pissing contests though...

You forgot about the door at 2 sqm and a 1.5 m window

Ceiling already done
So the ceiling is already done :-) happy days... should smash that then... don't panic.... it's like doing your first set all those years ago... just cracking on..
