Shot themCarrier pigeon?
then he wouldnt be a problem to any of us cos by the sounds of it he will be dead within a week:RpS_lol:[/
:RpS_lol:
Well I've tried it more than once and won't again and jasper I've never seen anyone finish a course that would fit in as an improver with me.
very optimisticHow about this scenario. You pass a courser work, this courser is s**t hot and they start to get really busy from there own work and then start passing you work back?
lol sounds crazy but it happens
I worked with a lad who went on a course he was a s**t labourer and a s**t plasterer and all he did was bang on about how he's going to start his own business and can I skim this and can I skim that the truth is I couldn't trust him and I wasn't prepared to lose my time on the trowel looking after him, he was miles away from even buying a trowel and needless to say he had a chip on his shoulder when I told him, I sacked him and he didn't even work for me
:RpS_lol:How about this then would you employ a courser if they could make you good money?
Say the courser skims quickly to a high standard but only charges £180 a day with lab.
You give them a room to do...they knock it out in a day.
You charge £440 for the room.
You make £220 apprx after mats.
Coursers i've met are passionate about the trade, want to make money, and most will do everything they can to leave a quality job.
For me its a no brainer.
just seen ya thread Andy ,, the answer would be yes ,, basically it would be 2 rooms about same size ,, 1 for me and 1 for him or her ( ya never know brother ) ,, mix ya own and take it from theer :RpS_cool:Seeing as it seems to be a topic of contention on here, i thought i'd ask.
So lets see what people really think. Some logic to your answers would be nice, just to see what the general consensus is.
Do try not to turn the thread into a shite storm though, despite it being quite an emotive subject :RpS_biggrin::RpS_thumbup:
all courses are a waste of space
just wondering how many times ive read on here people telling someone to 'get a spread to do it and help him, that way youll get some experience'
Ok Here's my two peneth. I left the army in 2005 and they paid for me to do a 6 week city& Guilds ICA (intermediate construction award) which is an NVQ level 2 equivilant. Cost £2300 for my resettlement to re-trade. I had a little experience of labouring 4 a spread while on leave a couple of times a year. the only thing he let me do plastering wise was put the dabs on the wall, Which took some mastering over time.
After i left the army i couldn't get a job because i didnt have the time in the trade even though ON PAPER i had an NVQ level 2. Luckily the spread i did labouring for gave me a couple of days a week labouring/plastering for £35 a day. When he went under i didnt have any choice but to join back up or got it on my own. So ive been self employed since 2006 and been on the steepest learning curve ever. Ive been lucky enough to have worked with some canny spreads who have brought me on loads.
The young lad who works for me left college with NVQ level 3, has dot & Dabbed once in 3 years done very little rendering and knows very little about floating.
Maybe i picked up plastering quicker cos i was working for myself and your only as good as your last job and i've got bills to pay.
but a lad doing a 3 year NVQ is farther advanced in the trade than i am after a short course. Dont get me wrong alot of blokes an my course finished it not much better than they started. they were all younger than me could be down to me have more life skills than them, being a bit more mature. (Doubt it squaddies arent mature).
who knows????. Im not saying im mustard at plastering but i do a canny job and im still working for myself when many lads went under so i take a bit of positivity from that that my standard but be at least average to good.
Ive not been on this forum long and ive learn s**t loads from most of you lot and for that i am truely thankfull
amen.

Just my opinion[/QUOTE
Hi Guys,
Two Peneth, this is a disatation, what course were you on?? English Literature!!
just my opinion
Wrong
don't matter where they learnt to plaster... on site, apprentice, course or even youtube videos. As long as they can plaster and get a good finish then i'd happily pay them.
I actually learnt on a course. I have been plastering for 10 years and have run a sucsessfull plastering business for 8 years.
I'm not cheap either. I leave that to the polish and romanians.
wit can u learn on a course.how 2 skim a board
