Youngsters and water?

Had a hand recently with a large ceiling from a youngster. All was good and everything seemed normal, then the water came out, brush and spray. Honestly I've never seen so much water used, I know I'm the other way with minimal water but this was ridiculous.
Is this the norm now with the young guns?

I never spray but always brush water onto surface it needs it these days imo

I was taught to use water by a plasterer turned housebuilder who I guess would have trained in the 40s or 50s in NI.

Guess that counts as old school.

The old guys I worked with always ran their water brush in front of their trowel for the final pass.

That's partly to try and not shine the walls up. A weird modern idea of perfection.

Depends what towel your using too. I used barely any water. Then I got a mediflex and it bloody loves water! ...... although to be fair I’m still not using much extra water, just hitting it sooner than I did before

I was working with a fella in Manchester had a flex of some sort. He used that much water that it was sluicing out the back of his trowel and running down the wall. It was only a one off job though so I never got to see exactly what he was doing.

Came up a good finish though

The state of @Nisus buckets he could use thrice filtered glacial run off and it would still look like stagnant swamp water that a hippo with a kidney infection had p1ssed in 2 seconds after it went in.

Came up a good finish though

It just goes to show that everyone finds their own way of doing things and so long as the finish is good who cares!

As @JessThePlasterer said, no one gives a sh1t how it's done as long as the end result looks good. One coat, two coat, flexi trowel, Scammell mudflap, loads of water, none, all irrelevant as long as the customer's happy with the finish.

I was on a job and there was a couple of Croatian plasterers there, over skim onto mixed backgrounds they laid on 1 thick coat and drowned it in water, smeared fat everywhere and then kept trowelling it until it looked finished, once painted it looked shite and is probably cracked now

Nothing wrong using water, but a decent plasterer shouldn't need to. It'll look the same when painted but much more skill and timing in being able to finish a set without a drop of water
